Job Title: Maintenance Manager (plant)

Classification: Exempt

Our Pekin campus produces products destined for Health, Home& Beauty; Food and Beverage; Industry & Agriculture; Essential Ingredients; and Renewable Fuels markets. All personnel are responsible for the safety of these products, which includes participation in training, following cGMP and feed/food safety requirements in the facility, and following procedures per instruction of management.

Job Purpose:This position oversees the day-to-day activities involving the maintenance of the building/facility, operational equipment and machinery, building lighting systems, fire system, grounds keeping, security and overall facility appearance. The position supervises and coordinates the work of employees who repair and maintain building/facility, equipment and machinery.

The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties. It is not all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition, management may modify this job description as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the reliability, repair and regulatory compliance of the facility under Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Complies with all state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations, and adheres to quality assurance programs and safety standards. Implements and role models workplace safety policies and standards.
  • Select, develop, train and supervise employees in the maintenance department. Responsible for development and performance management for these employees.
  • Work with outside vendors and contractors to efficiently procure equipment, parts, services and related supplies.
  • Responsible for parts procurement and inventory management. Ensures critical spares are available and that the maintenance team has the tools to do the job correctly and safely.
  • Plans and sets daily goals and direction for the team; resolving highest priority mechanical issues first and as needed throughout the day. Able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Is the owner of the facility work order system. Ensure employees are documenting daily maintenance tasks appropriately and contractor work is being documented. Uses the work order system to set daily tasks for maintenance team. Manages the work order system to ensure all preventative maintenance including mechanical integrity are assigned and completed in time.
  • Develops and oversee the implementation of Maintenance Department Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs).
  • Defines, designs, develops, monitors, and refines asset maintenance plan that includes value-added preventative maintenance tasks and effective utilization of preventive and predictive maintenance such as mechanical integrity, vibration analysis, infrared imaging, lubrication, failure analysis to drive reliability and operation availability.
  • Along with the management team, assists in the justification, planning and execution of plant outages and turnarounds.
  • Involved in routine audits and as needed that focus safety, regulatory compliance, maintenance effectiveness, PSM / mechanical integrity compliance, cost savings, and energy conservation and implements corrective actions based on audit results.
  • Promotes a team atmosphere within the maintenance department, ensuring a shared vision for plant reliability.
  • Provides technical guidance and expertise. Has a working knowledge of electrical and boiler maintenance, pumps, agitators, gearboxes, conveyors, motors, centrifuges, air compressors, actuated valves and instrumentation.
  • Assists in covering and organizing coverage to allow all maintenance department employees adequate time off.
  • Adheres to and tracks spending to maintenance budget. Uses the budget for planning future maintenance purchases and parts procurement.
  • Communicates regularly with management team members to keep them informed of personnel issues, equipment malfunctions, and productivity levels.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent or related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering preferred
  • 2-3 years' experience working in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment.
  • Skilled with computers; Can work in databases and excel. Familiar with maintenance software including Basic Safe preferred.
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, coach, and lead teams preferred.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in cold to hot temperatures; work around dust, fumes, and/or moderate to loud noises; work inside and/or outside.
  • Able to lift, pull, carry, and pick up average to heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to climb stairs and ladders; walk on paved and unpaved surfaces; sit at a desk and operate a computer and keyboard; visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear, speak, and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; manual dexterity to operate a telephone; lift horizontally and vertically, bend, stoop, stand, and reach.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
