Role Purpose:The Maintenance Department Head is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and performance of the maintenance function at the Painted Post, NY glass plant. This position is accountable for ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of all production equipment, plant infrastructure, utility systems and emergency backup facilities equipment. The Maintenance Department Head will lead maintenance personnel, oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs, support capital and reliability initiatives, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to achieve plant safety, quality, and production objectives. This role reports into the plant operations manager.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead all plant maintenance operations, providing strategic direction and day-to-day oversight while coaching and developing supervisors, technicians, electricians, mechanics, and other maintenance staff.
- Ensure maintenance activities meet all safety, environmental, and company standards, while fostering accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and sustain preventive and predictive maintenance programs; oversee troubleshooting, repairs, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions to improve reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Maintain plant equipment, facilities, utility systems, and emergency backup equipment to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
- Prioritize maintenance work based on production schedules and operational needs; monitor and improve uptime, downtime, work order completion, labor utilization, and maintenance costs.
- Manage maintenance budgets, including labor, parts, outside services, contractors, capital expenditures, shutdowns, major repairs, and maintenance projects to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective execution.
- Partner with operations, mixing, engineering, quality, and safety teams to support plant goals, continuous improvement, new equipment installation, commissioning, and capital projects.
- Use CMMS to maintain accurate records, schedule maintenance work, and analyze equipment and maintenance trends.
Experiences/Education - Required:- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 7 years of manufacturing or industrial experience, including at least 3 years leading or managing teams.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial control systems, as well as preventive/predictive maintenance and reliability improvement practices.
- Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including root-cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental, health, and safety requirements in a manufacturing environment
- Must be available to respond to emergency maintenance issues outside of normal working hours, as needed.
- Must demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety, employee development, and operational excellence.
Physical Requirements:- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the plant.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and access elevated or confined areas as needed.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, steel-toed footwear and possibly, respiratory protection.
Experiences/Education - Desired:- Previous experience in manufacturing, continuous-process manufacturing, or other heavy industrial operations strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with conveyors, motors, compressors, PLCs, and other common glass manufacturing systems.
- Experience applying reliability-centered maintenance principles and using CMMS platforms to schedule, track, and document maintenance work.
- Proven ability to manage capital projects and major maintenance shutdowns.
This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $106,400.00 - $146,300.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
