The Machinist Technician will support in the fabrication, machining, and maintenance of precision components and assemblies used in the development and testing of advanced robotic systems. Working within a fast paced R&D and prototyping environment, this role requires hands on expertise in machine shop operations and a strong ability to work cross functionally with mechanical and systems engineers to bring hardware from concept to physical reality.
Responsibilities- Operate manual and CNC machine tools including mills, lathes, surface grinders, and drill presses to fabricate precision parts from engineering drawings and CAD models
- Set up and program CNC equipment, selecting appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for a range of materials
- Support prototype builds and iterative hardware development cycles, often turning around quick build requests for engineering
- Perform first article inspection and in process quality checks using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM equipment
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and minor repair of shop equipment
- Read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T callouts, and BOMs with minimal oversight
- Collaborate directly with robotics and mechanical engineers to troubleshoot fabrication challenges, flag tolerancing issues, and recommend DFM improvements
- Maintain inventory of raw stock, tooling, and consumables
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe machine shop environment in compliance with safety standards and 5S practices
Basic Qualifications- 3+ years of hands on machining experience in an aerospace, defense, robotics, or advanced manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with manual and CNC machining operations including milling, turning, and grinding
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Experience with a variety of materials including aluminum, steel, titanium, and engineering plastics
- Working knowledge of precision measurement tools and inspection techniques
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in a robotics or R&D prototyping environment where rapid turnaround and frequent design iteration are the norm
- CNC programming experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360 CAM, or similar)
- Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools
- Exposure to metrology and inspection equipment including CMM, optical comparators, and surface plate work
- Experience with EDM, waterjet, or other non-traditional machining methods is a plus
