This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Be fully responsible for machining operations within the Lunar Process Development Laboratory.
  • Own machine and material selection, setup, and layout planning to support lunar operations R&D.
  • Create training documentation and conduct training sessions with engineers and/or technicians who will ultimately be permitted to use some of the machines.
  • Maintain 5S standards of cleanliness and organization within the lab.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable EHS policies, protocols, and regulatory requirements in all machining activities.
  • Maintain shop machines, materials, and supplies to ensure high uptime and readiness.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and quality teams to ensure production readiness of new processes.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for machine, access, usage guidelines, and safety expectations.
  • Inspect fabricated parts to ensure engineering design tolerances are met.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 15 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 10 years of CNC programming experience using offline CAM software (e.g., Siemens NX, Mastercam, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience setting up and operating multi-axis CNC machines (3-axis through 5-axis mills and lathes).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience machining hardened metals (e.g., nickel-based alloys, stainless steels, high-temperature superalloys).
  • Proficiency with CNC controls.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5; ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement instruments (micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, CMM operation, surface profilometers).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer-service orientation.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset and commitment to quality.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Machining Technology or equivalent.
  • Technical training from a machinist trade school.
  • Experience in an aerospace environment.
  • Tooling and fixture design experience - ability to concept and specify workholding for complex geometries.
  • Knowledge of outside processing (heat treat, plating, coating, EDM, grinding, etc.).
  • Experience evaluating and selecting CNC machine tools for production - vendor assessment, capability studies, and factory acceptance testing.
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Experience providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback directly to engineering teams.
