Job SummaryThe Boiler and Machinery (B&M) Engineer/Specialist provides subject matter expertise for Vistra's generation fleet pertaining to loss control/prevention for critical plant equipment. The position will primarily be responsible for managing Vistra's B&M program activities and will provide sound engineering judgment to identify program gaps across the fleet consistent with established program guidelines. The Loss Prevention Engineer/Specialist will provide engineering analysis and guidance for continuous improvement of hazard management program requirements.
The Engineer/Specialist will be involved in industry user groups and forums to bring industry- leading ideas back to the Vistra organization. This function supports short- and long-range budget planning and execution in alignment with B&M program requirements.
Job DescriptionKey Accountabilities:- Facilitate the B&M Program adherence across the Fleet.
- Lead B&M Sub team, conduct periodic team meetings and update B&M Standard as needed.
- Work with site staff to implement the latest B&M Standard changes.
- Conduct specific spot audits of B&M program activities for the sites.
- Support site staff as point of contact for B&M program activities questions or concerns.
- Execute short-term and long-term B&M performance activities.
- Maintain the visibility and priority of B&M hazard management program.
- Participate and/or lead root cause analysis investigations to determine root cause of system and equipment failures and to perform equipment and system performance evaluations.
- Share actionable and relevant information across the company fleet to build awareness and enable risk-informed decision making.
- Effectively communicate within all levels of the Vistra organization.
- Travel to sites as necessary to support efforts.
Education and Skill Requirements:• 5+ years of power generation experience (or equivalent), prior experience with equipment reliability concepts, preventive maintenance for power generation plant equipment required.
• Ability to travel up to 40% of the time required.
• Ability to support sites with inquiries related to installation, operation, and maintenance of plant systems, electrical, controls and/or mechanical and rotating equipment.
• Understanding of power plant equipment and system performance requirements.
• Ability to research industry standards and best practices to support or provide technical guidance on issues related to hazard management and plant assets loss prevention.
• Ability to use plant operation, maintenance, and engineering principles to provide technical guidance on issues related to hazard management and plant assets loss prevention.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, creative problem solving and team building.
• High level of expertise in Maximo highly preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in an accredited Engineering program.
• Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills.
• Demonstrated aptitude consistent with the job's key accountabilities.
Location: Will consider any Vistra fossil generation facility as an alternative to Irving TX.
Grade: Grade will be assigned based on skills and experience (aligned with engineering/specialist progression program).
