Job Description:

As a Logistics Engineer, you will be responsible for researching, developing, and implementing automation solutions, concepts and procedures for worldwide parts distribution facilities. This role will focus primarily on autonomous vehicles, while also supporting storage automation and robotics.


Additional Information:

  • This role is located in Morton IL and does not offer relocation.
  • This role is 1st shift, Monday – Friday.
  • This role is 100% on-site with no opportunity for hybrid or remote schedules
  • This role requires up to 25% domestic or international travel. Travel will vary based on business needs and may include trips lasting up to two weeks at a time.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop automated solutions to improve warehouse efficiency, material flow, and ergonomics.
  • Partner with automation Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to evaluate, engineer, and implement new technologies.
  • Support and maintain existing automation systems while assisting with new deployments across facilities.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional projects with operations, engineering, IT, purchasing, and external vendors.
  • Oversee project timelines, costs, and progress; communicate updates and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Support the deployment and optimization of autonomous vehicle technologies, including maintaining existing fleets and evaluating new solutions.
  • Lead on-site automation launches, including training operators across multiple shifts and troubleshooting system performance in real time.


What You Have (Basic Requirements):

  • Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.
  • Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes.

What Will Set You Apart (Top Candidates Will Have):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field
  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, automated storage/retrieval systems, or robotics technologies
  • Experience working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and automation systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical and operational issues
  • Thrives in an environment where new technologies are deployed in live operations and not everything works perfectly at first, requiring resilience, adaptability, and hands-on problem solving
  • Experience supporting on-site implementations, including troubleshooting and stabilizing systems during initial startup
  • Exposure to global or multi-site deployments and working with cross-functional teams
  • Data visualization skills with the ability to create clear, impactful insights for business and operational decision-making

Summary Pay Range:

$97,530.00 - $146,290.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
