Overview

We are seeking a results-oriented Freight Carrier Operations Manager - External Brokerage to lead carrier execution, service delivery, and profitability across our external brokerage network. This role is responsible for balancing service excellence with cost discipline while driving operational efficiency, technology adoption, and strategic capacity growth.

The ideal candidate brings strong freight market knowledge, operational leadership experience, and a proven ability to execute in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own brokerage operational performance and profitability outcomes.
  • Drive year-over-year improvements in margin, cost control, and productivity.
  • Reduce losses and improve buy-sell effectiveness through market-aligned execution.
  • Ensure freight procurement aligns with prevailing market conditions.
  • Deliver the highest level of service at the lowest sustainable landed cost.
  • Lead carrier sourcing and procurement aligned to business strategy ("Procurement with Purpose").
  • Drive disciplined execution through increased pre-planning and reduced same-day coverage.
  • Improve weekend and off-hour coverage efficiency.
  • Build, audit, and maintain carrier route guides to support reliable execution.
  • Expand strategic and dedicated carrier capacity to reduce transactional coverage.
  • Ensure carrier compliance, onboarding integrity, and system integration.
  • Ensure consistent service performance across the external brokerage network.
  • Drive accountability to individual and team performance objectives.
  • Reinforce adherence to end-to-end load process standards.
  • Reduce service disruptions and reactive execution through proactive planning.
  • Partner cross-functionally to resolve issues and improve customer outcomes.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $93,500 - $156,450.
  • Location, confirmed job-related skills, experience, and education will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range during the hiring process.
  • Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 10% of annual salary paid out annually.
  • Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Transportation, freight brokerage, supply chain, logistics, or account management experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of freight brokerage operations and transportation fundamentals preferred
  • Proven leadership experience, including coaching teams, managing performance expectations, and driving accountability.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to operational execution
  • Results-oriented with a strong sense of accountability and ownership
  • Adaptable and comfortable operation in an evolving, growth-oriented business environment
  • Experience within a third-party logistics (3PL), brokerage, or high-volume transportation environment.
