Liver Transplant Coordinator Nurse

Shift Details:

Full Time

Monday - Friday

8am - 4:30pm

Position Highlight:

A Liver Transplant Coordinator Nurse plays a critical role in the complex and life-saving process of liver transplantation. This specialized nurse is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of care for patients undergoing liver transplants, from initial evaluation through post-operative care. The role requires a deep understanding of liver disease, transplantation protocols, and patient management.

The Liver Transplant Coordinator Nurse works closely with a multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, hepatologists, and social workers, to ensure that patients receive comprehensive, personalized care. Key responsibilities include patient education, scheduling and coordinating transplant-related procedures, monitoring patient status, and providing emotional support to patients and their families.

Exceptional communication skills, clinical expertise, and the ability to navigate the challenges of transplant logistics are essential for success in this role. This position not only demands technical proficiency but also a compassionate approach to patient care, as it involves guiding patients through one of the most critical times in their lives.

Job Description:

Provide and promote the delivery of 24/7 transitional quality patient care for a designated group of patients through role modeling, displaying excellence in nursing knowledge and clinical practice, and acting as educator for the transplant patient population. Provide a continuum of care and education for pre and post-transplant patients and their families (living donor or recipient) and serve as a patient advocate in the healthcare system and community.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three years nursing experience or other direct patient care experience working with complex patients required.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written format required.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisplinary team, using good judgment and assessment skills required.
  • Ability to demonstrate competent leadership and teaching ability required.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or current compact state license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
  • Willingness to travel required.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior solid organ transplant experience preferred. Prior cardiology experience (ICU, CCU, or equivalent) preferred. Based on position, prior pulmonary experience (ICU, CF, PH or equivalent) preferred.
  • Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree preferred.
  • Transplant coordination certification after two years of hire or transfer date preferred.
