Job Description

Job Title: LiftSystem Lifecycle Engineer

Working Pattern: Fulltime

Working Location: Indianapolis, IN

Relocation assistance will be provided if applicable.

Position Summary

The LiftSystem Lifecycle Engineering team provides technical support for in-service events and proactive analyses to ensure safe operation and to eliminate future customer disruptions. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) leading the execution of Engineering Investigations (EIs), including Red Top investigations, to determine root cause of in-service events, review of data associated with system health report codes (HRCs), and authoring responses to Technical Queries (TQ) / Technical Variances (TV) in response to customer technical issues.  To achieve timely resolution of customer issues, the LiftSystem Lifecycle Engineer will lead multidisciplinary teams as part of Engineering Investigations (EI) to determine root cause of in-service events. These teams will include (but may not be limited to) component design, materials engineering, deployed services and program personnel. The LiftSystem Lifecycle Engineer will proactively identify threats and take steps to eliminate them before they cause events in the field.

What you will be doing

  • Engaging in an environment of cooperation and collaboration in the Service Engineering team that extends to the rest of LiftSystem engineering, the Field Service Representatives (FSRs) and others supporting the LiftSystem.
  • Innovating to apply new ideas / techniques to solve technical problems, improve reliability, minimize cost, and reduce maintenance burden.  
  • Leading technical conversations in product level safety boards and in-service reviews with regulatory and airworthiness authorities as required.
  • Representing the Service Engineering Technical Lead and Chief Service Engineer (as required) internally and with customers while promoting a positive, professional image of Service Engineering and Rolls-Royce.
  • This role may require occasional travel both in the US and overseas, sometimes at short notice and for extended periods to meet the business needs.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's degree in Engineering with 0+ years of relevant experience, or
  • JD/PhD
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to be considered for this role

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience and demonstrated capability in root cause investigation including evidence-based practices.
  • Prior work in support of safety investigations (Red Tops) involving Rolls-Royce products.
  • Experience leading the discussion of complex technical issues with customers and regulators.
  • Strong system and module level knowledge of the LiftSystem and its interfaces.
  • Understanding of the LiftSystem assembly and on-wing maintenance practices.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with FSRs and overhaul facility (LiftWorks) personnel to influence both fleet and depot operations and practices.
