Position Overview

We are seeking a Legal & Regulatory Counsel with 3–5 years of experience to join our Legal & Regulatory team based in Montréal.

This role is ideal for a lawyer with experience gained in private practice and/or in-house, with a strong background in regulatory law, litigation, and dispute resolution.

The primary mandate of this position is to support the company's regulatory advocacy efforts and advise the business on developing regulatory proceedings in Canada and the United States. The successful candidate will also provide legal support on disputes and litigation across the business.

Beyond this core responsibility, the Legal & Regulatory Counsel will serve as a trusted advisor to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), providing practical legal and regulatory guidance across a broad range of business matters. While the role will primarily focus on Canadian work, it will also support selected U.S. legal and regulatory initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise the business on regulatory proceedings and policy developments in Canada and the United States.

  • Support the company's regulatory advocacy strategy before regulators and other governmental bodies.

  • Provide legal advice and strategic support on disputes, litigation, investigations, and related risk management matters.

  • Manage external counsel and oversee litigation and regulatory matters to ensure efficient and effective outcomes.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, submissions, and correspondence related to regulatory and dispute matters.

  • Partner with business leaders and cross-functional teams to identify legal and regulatory risks and develop practical, business-oriented solutions.

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice to the Senior Leadership Team on a broad range of commercial, operational, and strategic initiatives.

  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and communicate their potential impact on the business.

  • Support the broader Legal & Regulatory function on additional matters as business needs evolve.

Qualifications

  • Law degree (LL.B., J.D., or equivalent) and membership in good standing with a Canadian provincial bar.

  • 3–5 years of legal experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department.

  • Experience in regulatory law, litigation, dispute resolution, or administrative law.Knowledge of Canadian regulatory frameworks; exposure to U.S. regulatory matters is considered an asset.

  • Strong analytical, drafting, advocacy, and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent judgment and a pragmatic, business-oriented approach to legal advice.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across the organization.

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset, given the Montréal-based role and the need to support stakeholders across North America.
