Contributes to the overall success of the Legal Department in Canada by ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. The incumbent is responsible for the provision and co-ordination of legal services to the Bank and subsidiaries with respect to a range of Bank matters and specialized areas of law. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
• Provides day-to-day legal support to the Global Transaction Banking (GTB) business line, with a focus on cash management and treasury services, payments and receivables, digital channels, and related client solutions. This includes:
o Reviewing, drafting and negotiating client agreements, product terms, service agreements, confidentiality agreements and other transaction documents.
o Conducting legal research and preparing clear, practical advice on banking, payments and regulatory matters and escalating novel, complex or higher-risk issues to senior counsel.
o Supporting new products, pilot programs, technology initiatives and strategic partnerships by identifying legal risks, documenting requirements and assisting with implementation.
o Working collaboratively with business, compliance, risk, operations, technology, privacy and other stakeholders to develop practical and scalable solutions.
• Provides legal counsel to GTB and other departments in the Bank on payment modernization and related regulatory initiatives, including consumer-driven banking, real-time payments and ISO 20022. This includes monitoring relevant legal, regulatory and industry developments and helping assess their potential impact on Bank products, services and processes.
• The above activities will be carried out both through direct support to the relevant business lines or other departments and by supporting the senior lawyer on the team.
• Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
