What you'll be doing- Provides legal and strategic advice on discreet issues or complex issues regarding RBC risk, outlines legal implications and addresses risk mitigation, and makes recommendations aligned with best practices and standards
- Conducts legal research on national and international instruments, including international conventions, jurisprudence, opinions and precedents to provide advice to the business and to identify trends
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, identifies and assesses corporate and transactional risk, considers new and emerging jurisprudence and corporate practices, and develops risk mitigation strategies to support client needs and objectives
- Participates in committees and working groups as subject matter expert; provides legal advice to ensure alignment and consistency in program and service delivery; and provides input on policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices updates and development
- Facilitates knowledge-sharing and continuous professional development and prepares and delivers briefings and presentations on various legal topics to internal colleagues and exporters
- Consults and develops relationships with key stakeholders at Global Affairs Canada and other Crown Corporation and departments for evolving areas of concern to CCC
- Supports the administration of Access to Information requests, including intake and triage, records review, stakeholder coordination, consultations, and preparation of disclosure materials and recommendations.
- Supports the preparation and submission of statutory and corporate reports, including ATI/Privacy reporting, supply chain transparency reporting, anti-bribery reporting, and trade agreement procurement reporting requirements.
- Provides mentoring, coaching, and support to law clerks and assigned summer students
- Delegates work to team members, outside counsel or consultants based on prioritization and alignment with skills and workload
What you'll bring to CCC - Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD), or equivalent law degree is required. Licensed to practice law in Ontario and must be a member of good standing in a Canadian provincial or territorial law society
- Minimum five (5) years of experience practicing law, three (3) years of practice related to commercial contractual agreements and three (3) years' experience in the area of responsible business conduct, human rights and integrity.
- Knowledge of the Access to Information Act and Privacy Act, including ATIP training, certification, or practical experience, is considered an asset.
- Demonstrates professionalism by adhering to the rules of professional conduct adopted by the relevant law society
- Experience gained from legal practice, demonstrating proficiency essential for managing CCC's complex and high-stakes assignments
- Knowledge of legal administration, practices, processes, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of legal issues, trends, best practices, and challenges related to core mandate and program area, commercial export operations, and international contracting
- Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
- Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, regulations, and guidelines
- Knowledge of relevant economic, political, legal, cultural, and social contexts of partners and stakeholders
