Hybrid Legal Assistant/Paralegal

Location: Irvine, CA

The Role:

Legal Assistant/Paralegal - Civil Litigation - Insurance Defense Firm

Hiscox USA has an immediate need for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our Southern California Staff Counsel office, located in Irvine, CA. The position partners with Hiscox's policyholders and claims professionals to deliver the best possible result in the defense of General Liability lawsuits. The position offers flexibility as a hybrid position, with only two days in office.

We are looking for someone who is motivated, thorough, organized, and able to pay close attention to details. Someone who is efficient on tasks and follow-up, and possesses strong litigation experience and skills, who is looking for a friendly and congenial work environment at a solid and fast-growing insurance carrier.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and process court filings (E-filing)
  • Maintain and review firm calendar
  • Prepare and process new client and matter forms
  • Manage legal case files, ensuring all documents are organized and accessible
  • Gather information from clients and draft and proofread legal documents, maintaining high standards of accuracy
  • Communicate effectively with clients and court personnel, demonstrating strong phone etiquette
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines


Relevant Experience and Skills:
  • Experience in Civil Litigation Defense: 7 years + (Required)
  • Experience in calendaring civil litigation dates and deadlines and setting/reserving court appearances for attorneys
  • E-filing, proficient and knowledgeable with So. Cal. Courts; a plus if knowledgeable in NorCal jurisdictions as well
  • Familiarity and experience with document management systems and case management software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - demonstrated understanding of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation in proofreading and document preparation
  • Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook, Word, Teams) and various legal software applications
  • Experience manipulating PDFs in Adobe
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, organized and excellent follow-through skills
  • Accuracy, speed and professionalism
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Preparation of trial documents and assembly (trial binders)
  • Paralegal certificate is a plus

Salary Range: $70k-$110k

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment
