Job Overview:Due to company growth, we are actively seeking an experienced
Substation Design Engineer to join our team to perform and execute substation design projects.
Responsibilities and Duties:- Lead the design and engineering of high voltage substations (up to 500kV), including physical layout, protection & control, grounding, and equipment specifications
- Serve as the technical authority for substation engineering deliverables, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and quality
- Oversee and mentor a team of engineers and designers; provide technical guidance and review work products
- Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, and clients to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and technical requirements
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, bill of materials, and technical documentation
- Support field activities, including site assessments, commissioning support, and issue resolution
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (NESC, IEEE, NEC), utility requirements, and company engineering practices
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource planning for assigned engineering tasks
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and standards
Qualifications and Required Skills:- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited university
- 7+ Years of professional experience within substation design for electrical utilities
- EIT certification or PE license preferred
- Experience with protective relaying and/or P&C design is a plus
- Familiarity with substation grounding and lightning protection
- Past project experience working with large utilities
- Proven experience in Substation Design should include: general arrangement, electrical equipment, plans, elevation and section views, station cable trays, conduit fill calcs, rigid bus calcs, grounding and conduit layouts
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Experience working with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, & CDEGS/WinIGS preferred
Salary Range: $130,000-165,000/year
