Full Job Description
Role Summary:

The Lead Sonographer is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Ultrasound Department while also performing a full range of sonographic examinations. This role combines advanced clinical skills with leadership responsibilities to support high standards of patient care, image quality, workflow efficiency, and team coordination. The Lead Sonographer works closely with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure the effective delivery of fertility- related ultrasound services.

Role Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management:
  • Coordinate daily scheduling, workflow and staff assignments for the Ultrasound department to support efficient clinical operations.
  • Assist with departmental coverage planning for absences, vacations and operational needs.
  • Provide mentorship, onboarding, training, and day-to day guidance to Ultrasound staff.
  • Support performance feedback, coaching, and staff development in collaboration with leadership.
  • Act as a liaison between the Ultrasound department and physicians, nurses, and administrative teams.
  • Identify workflow or service issues and escalate concerns appropriately.


Clinical Duties:
  • Perform and assess high-quality ultrasound examinations, including transvaginal, transabdominal, pelvic, and follicular monitoring scans.
  • Assist physicians with ultrasound-guided procedures such as oocyte retrievals and embryo transfers.
  • Review images and patient documentation for completeness, quality and accuracy, and escalate concerns to the appropriate physician as needed.
  • Ensure a courteous, professional and compassionate patient experience at all times.


Quality Assurance:
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, image quality and departmental performance.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, infection prevention standards, health and safety requirements and applicable regulatory expectations.
  • Perform regular equipment checks and coordinate maintenance or service as needed.
  • Support the development, implementation, and updating of departmental policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

Formal Education or Equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited degree or post-diploma Ultrasound program (or recognized equivalent)
  • Certification with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO), in good standing.


Experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience performing and assessing ultrasound examinations
  • At least 1 year in a leadership, senior, or supervisory role preferred.
  • Proficiency in gynecological and fertility- related imaging.
  • Proven proficiency in: transabdominal and transvaginal scanning, sonohysterograms, endovaginal scans, follicular monitoring, early pregnancy obstetric scanning, and gynecologic pelvic ultrasounds

This role requires the flexibility to travel between the Etobicoke, Oakville and Brampton Clinic locations.
