Job PurposeThe Lead Product Developer - DER Flex is responsible for developing, launching, and scaling customer-facing flexibility products that enable distributed energy resources and flexible loads to deliver localized grid value. This role leads grid services and flexibility initiatives from concept through execution, including defining product scope, aligning stakeholders, developing business and regulatory strategies, and driving measurable outcomes.
A core focus of the role is advancing and expanding National Grid's flexibility portfolio-including new Grid Services for Compensation Fund (GSCF) offerings in Massachusetts, novel localized flexibility programs, flexible load connections, emerging rate and market designs-while ensuring strong coordination with network planning, operations, regulatory, and customer teams across National Grid MA & NY.
Key Accountabilities- Lead development and launch of new GSCF and localized flexibility products from concept through seasonal deployment at strategic locations and support post-performance evaluation in coordination with engineering planning and design partners.
- Lead early product definition for multiple sector flexible load connection offerings, maintaining awareness of industry trends and emerging technologies to enable operational readiness.
- Support extraction of learnings from location-specific pilots and influence strategic design for future scaled proposals.
- Support exploratory product work on time-varying rates or market constructs in coordination with regulatory and billing partners.
- Define clear success metrics, develop business cases, and coordinate cross-functional execution to transition products from pilots to sustained operations.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Environmental Science, Energy Management, Business, Economics, or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in product development, customer energy programs, strategy, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Familiarity with utility operations, DERs, and regulatory environments preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy required.

Salary
Massachusetts: $146,000 - $171,000 a year
Upstate NY: $130,000 - $152,000 a year
