Full Job Description

Your role:

We are seeking a Lead Principal Architect to define and lead our enterprise cloud and hybrid infrastructure architecture, spanning on‑premises data centers, public cloud platforms, and emerging edge computing use cases. This role owns the target‑state cloud architecture, migration strategy, and governance model, ensuring that infrastructure is automated, secure, scalable, and cost‑effective by design.

You will serve as a technical authority and strategic partner across infrastructure, application, security, and operations teams, with the goal of driving large‑scale cloud migration, datacenter‑as‑code adoption, and multi‑cloud governance, in partnership with our Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to deliver reliable, operationally mature platforms.

Cloud Architecture & Strategy

  • Define the target‑state cloud and hybrid architecture, including public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), on‑premises platforms, and cloud‑edge / edge computing patterns for latency‑sensitive and distributed workloads.

  • Own the cloud architecture roadmap (12–36 months), aligning migration waves, modernization initiatives, and platform investments with business outcomes.

  • Establish reference architectures, blueprints, and design standards covering compute, storage, networking, identity, security, and observability across environments .

Datacenter as Code & Automation

  • Lead adoption of datacenter‑as‑code and infrastructure‑as‑code practices using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, ARM, or equivalent, enabling repeatable, policy‑driven deployments .

  • Define orchestration patterns for provisioning, scaling, patching, and lifecycle management across cloud and hybrid platforms.

  • Partner with platform and DevOps teams to embed automation into CI/CD pipelines and operational workflows.

Cloud Migration & Modernization

  • Architect and govern cloud migration strategies (rehost, replatform, refactor, retire), including application dependency analysis, landing zones, and cutover approaches .

  • Provide hands‑on architectural leadership for complex migrations from on‑premises data centers to cloud platforms, ensuring resiliency, performance, and cost optimization.

  • Define post‑migration operating models, including SRE‑aligned reliability targets and disaster recovery architectures.

Multi‑Cloud Governance & Security

  • Establish multi‑cloud governance frameworks covering identity, network segmentation, security controls, compliance, tagging, and cost management (FinOps) .

  • Partner with Security and Compliance teams to design secure‑by‑default architectures that meet regulatory and enterprise risk requirements without slowing delivery.

  • Lead architecture reviews and ensure solutions align with enterprise standards and approved patterns.

Edge Computing & Emerging Platforms

  • Design and evolve edge computing architectures that integrate with core cloud platforms for data processing, analytics, and operational control at the edge .

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and vendors, translating innovation into pragmatic, supportable architecture patterns.

MSP & Vendor Partnership

  • Act as the architectural counterpart to Managed Service Providers (MSPs), defining service boundaries, responsibilities, SLAs, and technical standards .

  • Review MSP designs and delivery artifacts to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and automation expectations.

  • Support vendor selection, contract input, and ongoing performance reviews from a technical perspective.

What you bring to the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, science and math or related discipline with an IT emphasis.

  • Public cloud certification (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • 12+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, or platform engineering, with 8+ years in senior or lead architecture roles delivering enterprise‑scale solutions .

  • Highest level of technical expertise with deep hands‑on experience with public cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, and/or Azure) and hybrid connectivity to on‑premises data centers.

  • Proven expertise in infrastructure‑as‑code / datacenter‑as‑code, automation, and orchestration frameworks.

  • Strong background in cloud migration and modernization programs, including governance and operational readiness.

  • Experience designing and governing multi‑cloud environments and working with MSPs or systems integrators.

  • Ability to communicate architecture decisions clearly to both technical and executive stakeholders.
