Lead Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the combined cycle power plant. This role provides operational leadership during assigned shifts, monitors and controls plant systems, directs plant activities, responds to abnormal operating conditions, and supports maintenance efforts to ensure plant performance, regulatory compliance, and personnel safety. The Lead O&M Technician serves as a resource to plant personnel and helps develop operational excellence through training, communication, and adherence to established procedures.
Camden Plant Holdings (Camden) is a 173 MW gas fired combined cycle facility utilizing a GE 7001EA Gas Turbines and a GE Steam Turbine with water cooled condensers. The facility is interconnected to PSEG and sells power into the PJM market.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlant Operations & Performance• Direct and oversee the day-to-day operation of the combined cycle facility to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.
• Monitor plant equipment and systems using control systems, instrumentation, and operating logs; investigate alarms, diagnose issues, and implement corrective actions as appropriate.
• Perform and supervise plant startup, shutdown, switching, and equipment operations, including gas turbines, HRSGs, auxiliaries, and supporting systems.
• Coordinate operational activities with dispatchers, utility representatives, steam hosts, and plant management to meet generation and operational requirements.
• Monitor plant performance, operating parameters, environmental compliance requirements, and water chemistry programs to ensure optimum plant operation.
Maintenance & Reliability• Support preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs by identifying equipment deficiencies, troubleshooting operational issues, initiating work requests, and assisting with equipment testing and maintenance activities.
• Verify the accuracy of equipment deficiency reports and ensure operational issues are communicated and documented appropriately.
• Operate plant vehicles and equipment, including forklifts, cranes, and trucks, as required.
Safety, Compliance & Security• Promote and enforce compliance with all company safety policies, environmental requirements, operating procedures, and regulatory standards.
• Ensure proper implementation and monitoring of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe work practices.
• Monitor plant security systems and respond appropriately to security concerns or incidents.
• Safely perform duties involving OSHA-classified hazardous materials in accordance with established procedures.
Leadership & Communication• Provide operational direction and technical guidance to plant operators and maintenance personnel during assigned shifts.
• Assist in the training, qualification, and development of operations personnel.
• Maintain accurate plant records, logs, reports, and shift documentation.
• Communicate plant status, operational concerns, equipment issues, and improvement opportunities to management and plant personnel in a timely and professional manner.
• Foster positive working relationships with coworkers, contractors, vendors, customers, and external stakeholders.
Requirements- New Jersey Blue Seal Boiler Operator License or higher.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience operating and/or maintaining major power generation equipment.
- Experience with distributed control systems (DCS) or other digital control platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams and technical documentation.
- Preferred
- Combined cycle power plant experience.
- Experience leading operators, contractors, or shift personnel.
- Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Requirements- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles and equipment, including forklifts, cars, and pickup trucks.
