Job Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Lighting / Compositing Artist to join our growing team! In this pivotal role, you'll help shape the look and feel of our animated productions, guiding a team of talented artists while collaborating closely with supervisors, production, and other departments. You'll lead by example-establishing visual consistency, resolving complex issues, and pushing the quality bar across all stages of production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of lighting and compositing artists to deliver high-quality, visually cohesive work across sequences and episodes.
- Set up and manage sequence lighting templates, look development, and key compositing to streamline workflows and maintain consistency.
- Collaborate with the Art Director, Supervisors, and Head of Lighting to maintain the artistic integrity of the show.
- Vet CG assets and ensure they translate seamlessly across shots and departments.
- Troubleshoot complex technical and artistic challenges in lighting and compositing.
- Communicate with Production and other departments regularly to ensure tasks are on schedule and aligned with the creative vision.
- Guide team members through technical and continuity challenges, supporting their growth and problem-solving effectively.
- Distribute workloads across the team, maintaining balance and supporting tight deadlines and overtime scenarios when necessary.
- Actively document workflows and train new team members, fostering a collaborative and informed team culture.
- Assist with asset finaling, including character turnarounds and set renders.
- Support the team with Nuke compositing issues and work with Pipeline to resolve any technical roadblocks.
Skills and Experience
- Advanced proficiency in Maya, Nuke, and Arnold.
- Experience working with Shotgrid/Flow.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and visual storytelling sensibility.
- Experience in managing lighting/compositing workflows and mentoring teams.
- A proactive and solution-oriented mindset, especially during final pushes and high-pressure deadlines.
This is a Union position and the terms and conditions of employment are covered by a collective agreement.
In accordance with British Columbia's pay transparency legislation, the wage displayed reflects the minimum rate established under ICON's collective agreement. Additional compensation may be considered based on experience, qualifications, and project needs, where permitted by the collective agreement.
