This Opportunity

WSP USA is initiating a search for a Lead Geologist for the Greensboro, North Carolina office to be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team. The following locations will also be considered: Durham, NC and Charlotte, NC. This person will plan, direct, and oversee environmental consulting services in support of public and private clientele. This position requires an individual with effective program-level management and communication skills as significant client, agency, public, and team interactions are expected. Our ideal candidate will be a significant contributor both with strategy and delivery on a team providing project and client management services for hydrogeological characterization, environmental assessments, and environmental compliance.

Your Impact
  • Plan, oversee, and mentor environmental scientists and engineers performing technical assignments (both field and office) on environmental projects/programs.
  • Provide technical review/oversight/mentoring of teams to assure compliance with environmental laws, company standards, contract requirements and related specifications.
  • Manage projects technically and administratively.
  • Oversee development and execution of cross-functional teams performing project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations to explain research, findings, recommendations to prevent, control, remedy, or clean-up chemical and environmental concerns related to State and Federal regulations.
  • Plan and direct business development and marketing strategies/activities to capture new clients for WSP USA.
  • Represent WSP USA and interact in a professional manner with clients, regulators, and subcontractors.
  • May travel to project sites primarily in the Southeast.
  • Understand and assure compliance with company, client, and site Health and Safety standards.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geosciences or closely related discipline.
  • 7-10+ years of related experience.
  • Ability to pursue and develop clients in the public or private sectors.
  • Proficient in project management and/or business development experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with Federal and State (NC, SC, VA) environmental regulatory programs.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Must pass physical, background check and must have a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (Motor Vehicle Safety) policy.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability and willingness to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites primarily in North Carolina and surrounding area.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Geology, or closely related discipline.
  • Local contacts within the industry.
  • PG or applicable professional certification.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120).
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR.
