Job DescriptionU.S. Bank is seeking a
Lead Software Engineer to help modernize and enhance our
Branch Money Movement platforms. This role will lead the design, development, and transformation of mission-critical applications supporting high-volume payment processing, money movement capabilities, customer servicing, and operational workflows. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with hands-on engineering leadership and a passion for cloud modernization, distributed systems, and enterprise-scale software delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the architecture, design, and modernization of enterprise applications supporting money movement, transaction processing, and customer servicing platforms.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable APIs, microservices, and event-driven applications using Java, Spring Boot, and cloud-native technologies.
- Drive adoption of Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, containerization, and cloud modernization strategies across engineering teams.
- Lead migration of legacy platforms to secure, resilient, scalable cloud-based architectures, reducing technical debt and improving operational efficiency.
- Provide hands-on leadership through solution design, coding, code reviews, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and production support.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards, DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Software Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles.
- Partner with business, architecture, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver innovative payment and money movement solutions.
- Drive adoption of observability, monitoring, automation, resiliency, and performance engineering capabilities to improve platform reliability and availability.
- Lead enterprise integrations across internal platforms and vendor systems using API-first and reusable service design patterns.
- Mentor engineers and technical leads while fostering a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
- Six to eight years of relevant experience
Required Skills & Experience - Must have experience with Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, Spring Batch, REST APIs, GraphQL, and Microservices Architecture
- Experience in Distributed Systems, Event-Driven Architecture, Asynchronous Processing, Kafka, and AMQ Messaging
- Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, Rancher, Container Orchestration, and Cloud-Native Development
- Experience with Application Modernization, Cloud Migration, Enterprise Architecture, and Technical Roadmap Planning
- CI/CD, DevSecOps, Jenkins, Maven, GitHub, SonarQube, Automated Testing, and Release Automation
- Data base experience with Oracle, SQL Server, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Redis, and Enterprise Data Platforms
- Software Reliability Engineering (SRE), Observability, Monitoring, Performance Tuning, and Resiliency Engineering
- API Integration, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), and Enterprise System Integration
- Technical Leadership, Solution Design, Code Reviews, Engineering Standards, and Team Mentorship
- Banking, Payments, Financial Services, Money Movement, Transaction Processing, and Regulatory Compliance
- Experience supporting ACH, Wire, Real-Time Payments (RTP), Account-to-Account Transfers (A2A), or Digital Money Movement platforms. - Preferred
- Experience leading large-scale modernization efforts within highly regulated financial services environments.- Preferred
Location expectationsThis role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $126,820.00 - $149,200.00
