Lead Field Engineer-Mechanical & PipingThe Lead Field Engineer-Mechanical & Piping will support a multi-year construction project involving significant civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, and site infrastructure construction.
Duties:- Provide field engineering support for process piping, firewater, service water, welding, and associated mechanical construction activities.
- Review drawings, specifications, procedures, work packages, P&IDs, piping isometrics, and other technical documents to support field construction.
- Provide technical interpretation and clarification of engineering requirements to Construction supervision and craft personnel.
- Support piping layout, installation, fit-up, welding, supports, valves, equipment connections, testing, flushing, and system turnover activities.
- Identify drawing conflicts, field interferences, constructability issues, and discrepancies between design documents and actual field conditions.
- Develop and/or coordinate Requests for Information (RFIs), field changes, technical questions, and resolution of construction issues.
- Verify current approved drawings, specifications, procedures, and technical requirements are available for construction activities.
- Coordinate technical issues with Engineering, Construction, Quality, Procurement, Planning, Commissioning, subcontractors, and other project disciplines.
- Support material verification, material substitutions, equipment issues, and resolution of procurement or installation discrepancies.
- Support welding activities through review and coordination of applicable WPS/PQR/WPQ requirements, weld documentation, and technical requirements.
- Coordinate with QC personnel regarding inspection points, testing requirements, documentation, and resolution of nonconforming conditions.
- Support hydrostatic testing, pressure testing, flushing, cleanliness, system walkdowns, punch-list resolution, and turnover activities.
- Maintain field engineering documentation, technical correspondence, redlines, field changes, and other required construction records.
- For Lead-level assignments, coordinate field engineering priorities, provide technical direction to Field Engineers, and serve as a primary technical interface between Engineering and Construction.
Skills/Experience: - Minimum 5 years of field engineering, construction engineering, mechanical/piping construction, or related industrial construction experience.
- Experience supporting process piping, firewater, service water, industrial piping, welding, or similar mechanical construction.
- Strong knowledge of piping installation, fabrication, fit-up, welding, supports, testing, and mechanical construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, mechanical drawings, specifications, procedures, and technical requirements.
- Knowledge of applicable piping and welding codes, standards, and construction requirements.
- Experience resolving field engineering, constructability, design, and installation issues.
- Experience coordinating technical issues between Engineering, Construction, and Quality.
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
- Experience with large-scale industrial, DOE, nuclear, energy, or highly regulated construction projects.
- Experience with process piping, large-diameter piping, firewater, and/or service water systems.
- Experience supporting welding programs, weld documentation, WPS/PQR/WPQ requirements, and NDE activities.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or other applicable welding certification, particularly for welding-focused assignments.
- Knowledge of ASME piping codes and applicable construction standards.
- Experience with pressure testing, flushing, system completion, and turnover.
- Prior lead or senior Field Engineer experience preferred for Lead-level assignments.
- Previous Savannah River Site or other DOE site experience.
