This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Enclosures Consultant for our New York, NY office. Be involved in projects with our Building Enclosures Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. WSP works closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment.

Your Impact
  • Provide guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Apply high-level building enclosure techniques and processes to identify LEED-certified and sustainable building improvements/recommendations for various aspects of project work including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, integration, construction, and operation.
  • Perform professional building enclosure work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and construction or operating permits.
  • Develop construction and installation plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing phasing plans and updating building enclosure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Involved from project inception to completion in the management of building enclosure design, construction, and integration projects, including renovation and new builds.
  • Develop and incorporate advanced technologies, modeling techniques, concept development, building materials, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper construction and functioning of building enclosures, equipment, and systems; implementing future-ready solutions with LEED-certified and sustainable building design standards.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on various design, construction, and integration issues relating to high-performance design, functional field testing, construction mock-up and design, laboratory testing and processes, future maintenance/repair/renewal, healthy building support, and strategies for zero carbon, portfolio sustainability, and green building certification.
  • Lead mid- to larger-scale building asset evaluation, including property condition assessment, reserve studies, pre-purchase, surveys and asset management for Building Enclosures.
  • Lead forensic investigations and field reviews for mid-level to larger-scale projects to determine design and repair options, building investigation reports, and other construction documents related to building investigations.
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, permit applications, schematics, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
  • Coordinate, review and approve design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, standards, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and other 2D/3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of more complex data, findings, or analyses.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address design, construction, and/or environmental issues or opportunities.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during site assessments, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk environmental, construction, installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Interact with any applicable regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Actively collaborate with other professionals, architects, scientists, engineers, inspectors, product manufacturers, and technicians on building, façade, and appearance improvement and development projects; as well as with proposal, pursuit, and business development opportunities.
  • Remain current in latest building enclosure and sustainability knowledge, techniques, and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Science, Construction Management, or closely related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior enclosures, façade design, and sustainability experience.
  • Proficient with building materials and construction processes for design, construction, and/or repair of building enclosures, façades, waterproofing, cladding systems, roofs, parking structure, noise abatement, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of third-party green building rating systems (LEED, Passive House, LBC, WELL, or related).
  • Advanced experience with building planning, design, façade, and construction management involving commercial and residential buildings; including active involvement in a variety of renovation and new design projects.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of green building construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of building enclosure principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate standards or regulations.
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and installation of equipment, materials, and systems.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, load calculations, discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit, WUFI, THERM, energy modeling), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Essential or enhancing professional licensure/certification.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $122,000 - $165,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
