Full Job Description
Description

The Arc Global Digital Team is hiring a Lead Developer to drive the technical direction of the digital products and platforms that power our business. Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer and leading a team of 5 engineers, this is a senior, hands-on, fully remote role for an engineer who is equally comfortable shipping production code, mentoring a team, shaping architecture, and partnering with non-technical stakeholders across the business.

Our portfolio spans multiple revenue streams including events, digital subscriptions, and marketing services, each with its own platforms and integrations. You'll be comfortable moving fluently between technologies and contexts, picking the right tool for each problem rather than forcing a single stack across very different products. Alongside this, you'll champion the responsible adoption of AI to multiply what our team can deliver.

The organization is on a path to consolidation, and this role will help shape that journey. We're looking for someone who can hold that long-term direction in mind while staying flexible day-to-day, willing to prioritize the work that moves the business forward, even when it isn't the cleanest or most architecturally pure option. Pragmatism, judgment, and a bias toward outcomes matter more here than ideology about the end-state stack.

Hands-On Engineering & Leadership

Lead by example: Design, build, and maintain production-grade software across web, services, and integration layers, staying current with the codebase and the roadmap.

Build across revenue streams: Work fluently across the platforms powering events, digital subscriptions, and marketing services, choosing technologies based on the problem at hand and the connections that integrate them to serve our audiences.

Raise the bar: Set and uphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, user experience and security.

Solve hard problems: Diagnose complex production issues, lead incident response, and drive root-cause fixes that prevent recurrence.

Mentor the team: Guide a team of engineers through code review, pairing, and one-on-ones, building skills, autonomy, and ownership.

Balance Internal and External Developers: Balance team capacity and supplement development with off-shore partners.

Architecture & Technical Strategy

Own the architecture: Define the technical roadmap for our digital products, balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability.

Make sharp trade-offs: Lead build-vs-buy, platform and technology decisions in tandem with Chief Digital Officer.

Reduce risk: Identify and address technical debt, scalability bottlenecks, and reliability risks before they become incidents.

AI Implementation

Find the leverage: Identify high-value opportunities to apply LLMs, agents, and ML across all digital products.

Ship real systems: Take AI features from prototype to production, covering evaluation, prompt and model selection, retrieval, guardrails, and cost management.

Build responsibly: Establish responsible AI practices for the team, handling data privacy, accuracy, bias, and human-in-the-loop review.

AI Coaching: Coach engineers on using AI tooling effectively in their own day-to-day work.

Delivery Process & Product Partnership

Establish the cadence: Define and roll out a standard sprint cycle model for the engineering team, covering planning, estimation and build time that scales across our different products and revenue streams.

Close the loop with product: Partner closely with the Vice President of Product Delivery to keep engineering and product tightly aligned on priorities and roadmaps.

Inform the roadmap: Use engineering insight, what's hard, what's reusable, to actively shape the organization's product roadmap.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Work in lockstep with peer leads: Operate as a peer to the Vice President of Product Delivery and the Director of Data Delivery, aligning on shared priorities, dependencies, and capacity across engineering, product, and data.

Communicate clearly: Translate complex technical concepts and trade-offs for non-technical audiences.

Drive alignment: Share progress, risks, and decisions proactively with the Chief Digital Officer and wider leadership; flag issues early and propose options, not just problems.

Requirements

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience, with a meaningful portion in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Proven track record shipping and operating complex production systems end-to-end
  • Comfortable working across a variety of platforms and technologies, you've supported multiple distinct products or business lines, and you adapt your toolkit to the problem.
  • Experience supporting digital revenue streams such as events, subscriptions, e-commerce, or marketing/martech platforms.
  • Strong fundamentals across multiple languages, frameworks, and paradigm.
  • Solid grounding in distributed systems, APIs, databases (SQL and NoSQL), and modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience integrating third-party SaaS platforms, CMS, CRM, marketing automation, payment, and analytics tools into coherent product experiences.
  • Hands-on experience integrating LLMs or other AI/ML capabilities into production products.
  • Demonstrated success leading and mentoring engineers and partnering with senior non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Track record of running effective agile delivery cycles (scrum, kanban, or hybrid) and partnering closely with product management to shape roadmaps.
  • Remote-ready: Self-directed and effective in a fully remote, distributed environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with agentic workflows, RAG systems, vector databases, or fine-tuning.
  • Familiarity with event tech platforms (registration, virtual/hybrid event tooling), subscription/paywall systems and marketing services tooling (CDPs, marketing automation).

What We Offer

  • A senior seat at the table on a digital team setting the direction for the global organization.
  • Real scope to influence architecture, hiring, and AI strategy from day one.
  • Fully remote work, with flexibility to organize your day around deep work.
  • Smart, supportive colleagues across engineering, product, design, and the wider business.
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and flexibility.
  • Investment in your growth

Physical Demands of the Job Include
  • Performing work in an indoor office environment
  • Operating standard office equipment such as computers, printers, keyboards, monitors, phones, and other telecommunications or internet-enabled communications devices

  • Lifting and carrying small to medium sized (0-20 lbs) parcels, packages and other items or traversing short distances.
  • Traversing longer distances and/or standing for extended periods of time will be required if travelling to conferences and in-person events.
