Full Job Description
We have an important role to play in securing the region's clean and reliable energy future and are looking for a Data Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain the enterprise data warehouse, data marts, and BI data systems that support business decision-making and strategic initiatives. You will build reliable, scalable data solutions, improve efficiency through automation and innovation, and help ensure the quality, integrity, and performance of our data platforms.

How you will make an Impact
  • Own Data Architecture & Solution Delivery
    Lead the design and implementation of scalable data platforms, including data warehouses, data marts, and ETL/ELT pipelines. Establish standards and best practices for data modeling, transformation, and system design.
  • Drive Platform Performance & Reliability
    Ensure high availability and performance of data systems through optimization, monitoring, and operational excellence. Oversee pipeline reliability, database performance, and production readiness for mission-critical workloads.
  • Lead Data Strategy & Integration
    Partner with business and IT stakeholders to align data architecture with organizational goals. Drive integration of data systems and ensure consistency, accessibility, and usability of enterprise data.
  • Advance Innovation & Technical Leadership
    Evaluate and adopt new tools, frameworks, and emerging technologies. Provide mentorship and technical leadership to the data engineering team, fostering continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to support mission-critical analytics in production.


What we are looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or analytics roles
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with SQL and Python, building and maintaining scalable data pipelines
  • 5+ years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS preferred: S3, Lambda, Athena, Aurora, Glue, Redshift)
  • Strong expertise in relational data modeling, database design, and performance optimization (PostgreSQL preferred)
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers, fostering best practices, code quality, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions
  • Ability to influence architectural decisions and collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, analytics, and business teams


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with modern data stack tools such as dbt, Airflow or Dagster, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale data architectures and data platforms
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and DevOps best practices
  • Experience with data governance, data quality frameworks, and observability tools

The expected salary range for a Lead Data Engineer is $150,000 - $170,000 per year. We will also consider a Mid to Senior level Data Engineer. The pay range for the Mid to Senior level is $110,000 - $150,000 annually. ISO New England Inc. is an independent, non-profit Regional Transmission Organization, headquartered in Holyoke, Massachusetts, serving Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. ISO-NE oversees the operation of New England's bulk electric power system and transmission lines, generated and transmitted by its member utilities, as well as Hydro-Québec, NB Power, the New York Power Authority and utilities in New York state, when the need arises. ISO-NE is responsible for reliably operating New England's 32,000 megawatt bulk electric power generation and transmission system. One of its major duties is to provide tariffs for the prices, terms, and conditions of the energy supply in New England. ISO New England's stated mission is to protect the health of New England's economy and the well-being of its people by ensuring the constant availability of electricity, today and for future generations. ISO New England ensures the day-to-day reliable operation of New England's bulk power generation and transmission system, oversees the administration of the region's wholesale electricity markets, and manages the regional planning processes. ISO-NE was created in 1997 by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, as a replacement for the New England Power Pool, which was created in 1971. The ISO-NE grid does not extend to remote parts of eastern and northern Maine in Washington and Aroostook Counties. In these areas, residents receive their electricity from Canadian providers such as NB Power and Hydro-Québec.
