Job Description Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Lead Control Software Engineer to join our FACTS Controls team in Saratoga Springs, NY. In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of advanced control systems for high-power reactive compensation technologies, including STATCOM and SVC systems.

This position combines technical leadership, hands-on control software development, and project execution. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in power system controls, strong experience with simulation and real-time testing, and the ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers while interfacing with customers and cross-functional stakeholders.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of control software for FACTS devices, including STATCOM and SVC systems (>100 MVAr applications).
  • Develop and implement control algorithms for real-time control and monitoring of power systems.
  • Perform power system studies, modeling, and simulation to validate and optimize control strategies.
  • Plan, specify, and execute control software and system-level testing, including laboratory validation and site commissioning.
  • Lead control software scope on projects, including coordination of deliverables, schedules, and technical interfaces.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, hardware, project management, and commissioning teams.
  • Participate in system energization and troubleshooting activities during commissioning.
  • Support technical tendering, customer discussions, and equipment sourcing with subject matter expertise.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including specifications, test procedures, and study reports.
  • Drive continuous improvement and contribute to R&D initiatives in FACTS control system design.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers and act as a role model within the team.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in control systems engineering within power systems or power electronics applications.
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience developing control software for grid-connected systems (e.g., FACTS, HVDC, renewable integration, or large industrial drives).


Eligibility Requirements
  • Relocation to Saratoga Springs, NY is required.
  • Willingness to travel (approximately 10-25%) for testing, commissioning, and customer engagements.


Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in Power Systems, Control Systems, or Power Electronics.
  • Experience with STATCOM, SVC, or other FACTS technologies.
  • Strong understanding of control theory, power system dynamics, and grid stability.
  • Experience interfacing with SCADA or plant-level control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineering teams in a project environment.
  • Experience supporting customer technical discussions, design reviews, and negotiations.
  • Familiarity with NERC, IEC, or other applicable grid and control system standards.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical scope or workstreams on engineering projects.
  • Proven experience performing power system simulations using at least one of the following tools: PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, RTDS, or PSSE.
  • Strong programming experience in at least one of the following: C/C++, MATLAB, or PLC-based systems.
  • Experience with real-time system testing, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), or commissioning of control systems.
  • Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skill.

Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $89,300.00 and $148,700.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
