Overview

Are you looking for a highly rewarding opportunity that provides extensive career growth opportunity? Next150 Construction is seeking a motivated Lead Construction Superintendent to oversee an assigned Next 150 trade, scope, or major operational feature of the project in a standalone capacity. This role provides direct field leadership and accountability for ensuring that all assigned work is performed in accordance with approved scope, safety requirements, quality standards, schedule commitments, and budget expectations. This role coordinates closely with the General Superintendent to plan, execute, and monitor work activities, ensuring disciplined adherence to approved work plans, proactive safety and quality control, effective workforce coordination, and consistent communication with field supervision and project stakeholders. 

Responsibilities
  • Directs the day-to-day execution and coordination of assigned Next 150 trades, scopes, and self-performed work to ensure safe, high-quality production in accordance with approved scope, schedule, and work plans 
  • Develops, documents, and communicates detailed work plans for assigned scopes and ensures that all field changes are properly reviewed, documented, safety planned, and authorized prior to execution 
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of contract documents, specifications, and coordination requirements in order to plan work effectively and anticipate potential issues 
  • Obtains or verifies that all required permits, inspections, and compliance documentation are secured and maintained for assigned scopes 
  • Establishes and maintains credibility with Owners, Gilbane leadership, trade contractors, unions, and field personnel through fair, professional, and consistent leadership; verifies safety compliance for assigned trades and field activities, acts as the primary Next 150 safety representative for assigned scopes, and enforces applicable safety and quality control policies; leads contractor meetings related to assigned scopes and coordinates activities with project and field leadership 
  • Maintains accurate daily field reports, safety documentation, and records using required construction management systems 
  • Creates, manages, and updates scope-level schedules and implements contingency plans as necessary to maintain commitments; communicates schedule status, constraints, and changes to the General Superintendent, Project Team, and affected Trade Contractors 
  • Plans, coordinates, and manages jobsite logistics for assigned scopes, including access, material flow, temporary facilities, and sequencing 
  • Oversees quality execution for assigned scopes and implements corrective actions to maintain compliance with project and company standards 
  • Assists in resolving jurisdictional disputes and field-level conflicts within assigned scopes 
  • Tracks production, labor hours, and productivity metrics for assigned work and reports variances 
  • Executes self-perform operations, workforce planning, and quantification of labor, materials, and equipment needs for assigned scopes 
  • Supports forecasting and cost-of-work projections in coordination with the General Superintendent and Project Management 
  • Trains direct reports on processes, procedures, and completion of daily tasks 
  • Manages workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards  
  • Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members 
  • Aids in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports 
Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management 
  • 7-10 years of experience on $15 million or larger commercial/ industrial construction projects in a superintendent role 
  • Experience leading components and/or a whole project 
  • OSHA 30 hour certified 
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong technical and communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needs 
  • Ability to work in a team environment; ability to collaborate on a daily basis with the project team 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, safety and site operations software, project management software, and construction management software 
  • Knowledge of construction-documenting and drawing, with knowledge of all phases of construction 
  • Knowledge in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control 
  • Strong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes and ability to enforce the project safety plan 
  • Ability to create a “safety first” environment by showing a commitment to Zero Injury principles and sustainability practices 

 

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.

For Chicago, IL this ranges from $119,100 - $166,430 plus benefits and retirement program.
