  • Build and maintain relationships with various business units and corporate areas

Job Summary

This role is responsible for accounting, financial analysis, and reporting support for the Allocations and Reporting group within the Controller's Department. The analyst will work closely with senior staff and management on accounting activities which include supporting Other segment reporting, accounting for cash, as well as the Service Company allocation process and associated regulatory filings. The Lead Accounting Analyst will also serve as the liaison for the legacy ARCOE work, among other special projects. Additional duties include assisting in journal entry review, account reconciliation review, and financial statement variance analysis in the Other segment. Attention to detail and a dedication to transformative and efficient processes are key to success in this role.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing monthly legacy ARCOE account reconciliation work, including reviewing anomalies and working with business partners to address, as well as finding opportunities for improvement
  • Prepare schedules required to meet monthly and quarterly data requests, for internal and external reporting
  • Assist in the cash accounting work for both SAP and non-SAP activity, which includes account reconciliations and journal entries. In addition to these tasks, identifying opportunities for automation and AI enhancements associated with current processes and reports.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual FERC Forms
  • Work with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information and answering questions as needed
  • Assist in SOX documentation updates and management testing
  • Special projects including research and process improvements
  • Foster and maintain business partner relationships with business units and corporate areas


Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
  • Five (5) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills - including data analytics
  • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with proactive recommendations and limited supervision
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately with various levels of management using oral and written communications
  • Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, OneStream, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)
  • Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point


Desired Qualifications
  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting
  • Eight (8) years or more of professional work-related experience
  • Exposure to or familiarity with the FERC Uniform System of Accounts
  • Previous experience in regulatory accounting or experience in utility industry


Working Conditions
  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.

  • Must have 5+ years (8+ desired) of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
  • Years of prior equivalent work related experience in lieu of a degree is N/A unless grandfathered in and requires CFO Staff approval.
