Full Job Description
This position manages all land related activities within a designated district to include managing the activities of the Land Team within the various areas assigned. The individual will focus on all current and prospective land matters, including collaboration with interdisciplinary teams of engineers, geoscientists, regulatory, accounting, land administration and legal. This person will focus on providing all necessary land support in the execution of assigned Asset Teams' goal. Additional responsibilities include overseeing human resources responsibilities such as evaluating performance, coaching, training and career development. The individual must have supervisory/organizational skills, exploitation, development, and exploration land experience across multiple basins.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Lead due diligence efforts in the acquisition and divestitures of producing assets, settle surface related issues, negotiate all commercial and business-related terms associated with the purchase and/or sale of assets within the assigned geographic area
  • Manage all land related activities including lease acquisition, trade negotiations, and contract preparation and administration
  • Manage land staff (including Landmen and Land techs), providing appropriate guidance and mentoring for purposes of delivering the necessary land support to the Asset Team
  • Recognize, analyze and resolve difficult land related situations
  • Work with internal and external partners on legal issues, regulatory matters, exploration and production issues, gas marketing, accounting and lease record/division order issues
  • Collaborate with VP of Land, business development and asset managers to establish and manage annual budget for leasing and acquisitions
  • Lead projects / act as a liaison with other departments, divisions and organizations
  • Lead the acquisition, maintenance, management, and disposition of properties and other related rights in order to meet corporate, regional and Asset Teams goals and objectives
  • Strategize and collaborate with key asset team members on executing the development plans and implementing a growth strategy that will support corporate, regional and asset team goals
  • Closely track and monitor G&A and Capital budgets versus spending in order to provide timely status reports to management
  • Act on recommendations for hiring, promotions, development needs or status changes of personnel
  • Conduct business with the highest ethical standards and make decisions that ensure the safety ofall persons associated with SM facilities

Computer/Software Applications:
  • Strong level of skill in Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Experience leading others with industry/company software including, but not limited to, working in QLS & AFE Navigator. Familiarity with Enverus and the latest industry intel resources available to SM

Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations.
  • Understanding of land management principles including negotiations, contracts, leasing, and titles (i.e., title, JOA's, oil and gas leases, curative documents, surface/mineral permits).
  • Strong at negotiating, constructing, and presenting commercial and business contracts and leases.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of exploration, development, and acquisition/divestiture economic metrics.
  • Understands geological and engineering principles, operations, and basin/resource plays.
  • Understands resource play evaluation methods and risk analysis. Understands and has knowledge of multiple basins/resource plays within a Region

Typical Education
  • B.B.A. degree in Energy Management, Land Management or other Business degree; CertifiedProfessional Landman status preferred.

Typical Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry work experience
