ONA is seeking to hire a Labour Relations Officer on our Member Education Team (MET) in our Toronto office. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Member Education/Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression, the successful candidate will design, develop, facilitate and evaluate learning programs that respond to the needs of ONA members. The Labour Relations Officer will work with subject matter experts and internal partners to translate complex information into accurate, accessible and practical education that aligns with ONA policies, strategic priorities and adult education principles.

This is what else you can expect from this dynamic role:

  • Design, develop, assess and revise assigned curricula, workshops, provincial education and educational resources in alignment with identified learning objectives, ONA policies, strategic priorities and operational requirements.
  • Assess learning needs and translate those needs into clear learning objectives, educational content and appropriate learning activities.
  • Facilitate assigned workshops, presentations and other learning sessions in digital and in-person environments.
  • Develop facilitator guides, participant materials, presentations, activities and other learning resources that are accurate, accessible and appropriate for adult learners.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of assigned workshops and educational programs using established evaluation processes, participant feedback and learning outcomes.
  • Recommend revisions to assigned curricula and resources based on learner feedback, legislative or organizational changes, emerging member needs and current adult education practices.
  • Collaborate with ONA subject matter experts and internal partners to ensure educational content is current, accurate and relevant to members.
  • Develop and adapt educational content for in-person, digital and eLearning delivery in collaboration with the Member Education Coordinator and other internal partners.
  • Contribute educational expertise to departmental and organizational projects, including the development or revision of guides, manuals and other member resources.
  • Identify gaps in existing education and recommend new or revised learning solutions to the Senior Manager.
  • Provide content expertise and support to staff facilitating assigned curricula to promote consistent delivery and understanding of the learning objectives.
  • Contribute accurate workshop descriptions, learning objectives and program information to support the communication and promotion of Member Education opportunities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of labour relations, adult education practices, relevant legislation, organizational policies and emerging issues affecting ONA members.
  • Participate as an active member of the Member Education Team and complete assigned curriculum development, facilitation and evaluation responsibilities within established timelines.


What we are looking for

  • The successful candidate will have a degree or diploma as a Registered Health Professional and/or in Labour/Industrial Relations;
  • Post-secondary education in Adult Education, or actively engaged in pursuing such designation, preferred.
  • Certificate in Project Management an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience designing, developing, facilitating and evaluating needs-based adult education programs to achieve identified learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop practical and innovative learning solutions that respond to members' needs.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills when working with subject matter experts and internal partners.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, and have a basic knowledge of database applications.
  • Bilingual English/French would be an asset.


The candidate must be able to travel, possess a valid driver's license and have access to an automobile for business use.
