Full Job Description
Position Summary
The Laboratory Technical Supervisor at Urology Austin oversees day-to-day operations of our CLIA certified and CAP accredited diagnostic laboratory, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient testing across multiple clinic locations. This role provides technical and administrative leadership, manages laboratory staff, coordinates scheduling, and ensures ongoing training and competency. The Supervisor maintains quality assurance programs, enforces safety protocols, and supports continuous improvement through instrument oversight, test validation, and collaboration with clinical teams.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science and at least 4 years of training and experience in high complexity testing in the respective specialty, OR
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the above disciplines and at least 6 years of training and experience in high complexity testing in the respective specialty.
  • Minimum 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role required.
  • Strong understanding of CLIA, CAP, and OSHA regulatory standards.
  • Experience with Orchard Harvest Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Essential Job Duties
  • Supervise daily operations of the clinical laboratory to ensure timely and accurate results.
  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and performance evaluations for laboratory staff.
  • Ensure adherence to CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and all state and federal agencies.
  • Maintain and monitor quality control and quality assurance programs, including oversight of proficiency testing.
  • Coordinate and document staff training and competency assessments.
  • Manage scheduling, workflow, and staffing levels to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Oversee instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting in collaboration with vendors.
  • Oversee test validation, verification, and implementation of new assays or platforms.
  • Ensure proper use and integration of the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Maintain inventory and ordering of reagents, supplies, and equipment
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and the development of policies and procedures.
  • Lead or support quality improvement initiatives and process optimization projects.
  • Assist with inventory management and restocking of lab supplies.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
