What You Will Do:
We are seeking a Laboratory Scientist to support Clinical Center and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) biosafety level 4 laboratory research, including translational studies of emerging viral pathogens. This is a full-time, on-site role in Frederick, MD that will require the ability to work a rotational shift including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Perform translational human and animal research on the pathogenesis and treatment of high-consequence emerging viral infections, such as Ebola and Nipah virus.
- Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings.
- Coordinate the work of biological technicians and technologists and other scientists.
- Develop and maintain proficiency by working safely and effectively in a biosafety level four laboratory environment.
- Establish and maintain accurate reliable sample inventory.
- Apply established assays and incorporate new virology and immunology techniques.
What You Will Need:
- Master’s degree in microbiology or related field.
- A minimum of TWO (2) years of experience working in biosafety level 4 laboratory environments conducting virology and immunology assays.
- Experience with immunology assays and molecular virology techniques.
- Familiarity with specimen storage, tracking, and accountability processes.
- Ability to work in a high-containment laboratory environment with strict safety protocols.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “Secret”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.
What Would Be Nice To Have:
- Prior experience supporting NIH or NIAID laboratory environments.
- Experience working with high-risk infectious agents such as Ebola virus, Orthopox virus, or Rabies virus.
- Experience working with non-human primates and small animal models in infectious disease research.
- Knowledge of biosurety programs and compliance requirements.
The annual salary range for this position is $74,000.00-$124,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
