Job Summary
General Summary / Overview

The Labor Relations Lead - Costing & Strategic Economics serves as the enterprise subject matter expert for labor costing and strategic economic insights across Mass General Brigham. This role provides strategic and technical leadership in support of collective bargaining, labor economics strategy, and efforts to increase standardization of union pay and benefits..
The position is a highly specialized individual contributor responsible for developing and executing labor costing models, advising leadership on negotiation strategy, developing presentations for local and system leadership to enable decision-making, and working collaboratively and proactively with the various communications teams to present MGB economic bargaining positions to internal and external audiences.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary labor costing expert for all collective bargaining agreements across the system.
  • Develop and maintain labor cost models to support contract negotiations and leadership decision-making. Support labor negotiators with Just In Time costing adjustments and concepts and support training of same as necessary.
  • Develop and regularly update detailed presentations for senior and local leadership to facilitate decision-making related to economic bargaining authority.
  • Analyze costing scenarios and work collaboratively with the lead negotiator, local management bargaining teams and ERLR COE in evaluating various alternative approaches to settlement within established authority.
  • Dives deep into labor contracts to maximize financial sustainability.
  • Support multiple concurrent negotiations by producing on-demand timely and accurate costing outputs during on-going negotiations.
  • Train and mentor ERLR staff on labor costing tools and methodologies.


Strategic Advisory & Collaboration

  • Partner with ERLR leadership, HR, Finance, and Legal to align labor strategy and policy initiatives.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on costing implications of bargaining proposals.
  • Support executive-level presentations and briefings related to labor strategy and enterprise risk.
  • Monitor and report on industry and national trends in labor settlement activity.
  • Develop a reference database of relevant comparison contracts from across the country, analyzing and recommending modifications to MGB contracts where appropriate.
  • Create a database of relevant wage and benefits information on comparator union contracts and update as appropriate.


Scope and Impact

  • Supports labor costing for approximately 29 collective bargaining agreements and ongoing negotiations.
  • Directly influences negotiation outcomes and organizational risk mitigation.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred (JD, MBA or related field).

  • Demonstrated expertise in labor costing, collective bargaining support, and interpretation of union contracts.
