Full Job Description
We are currently seeking a Junior Technical Editor with 5+ years of experience to join our team and fully embrace our commitment to deliver, grow and thrive.

About the Role:

This role supports a federal client by reviewing classified legal and technical documents for accuracy, consistency, and compliance. While the day-to-day work focuses on precise, line-by-line editing, successful performers go beyond surface corrections: they recognize recurring errors, follow strict guidance, and flag systemic issues that impact quality and compliance.

This is a high-visibility, process-driven environment. Success requires humility, respect for the client's mission, and comfort working within clearly defined standards. This role is ideal for individuals who take pride in accuracy, follow directions, and are motivated to improve the document quality and overall program efficiency over time. You will be trusted not to "rewrite" content or impose personal style but instead provide support to our federal client to ensure program alignment and mission objectives.

Day-to-Day Expectations:
  • Perform meticulous, line-by-line reviews of classified, legal, and technical documents to correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, formatting, and citation errors; internal inconsistencies, duplications, and omissions; deviations from established government style guides and templates
  • Apply explicit instructions, style guides, and reference materials exactly as written, even when they differ from personal preference or general writing norms
  • Independently research and resolve grammatical or style questions using approved references (e.g., style manuals, prior approved documents), escalating only when required
  • Ensure documents meet strict quality, compliance, and confidentiality requirements before submission to senior leaders and external stakeholders
  • Manage multiple documents and deadlines while maintaining exceptional accuracy under pressure
  • Maintain absolute security, discretion, and respect for sensitive and classified information
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge

Critical Success Factors:
  • Identify recurring errors, inconsistencies, or process breakdowns across documents (e.g., repeated formatting mistakes, misapplied terminology, recurring compliance gaps)
  • Track and summarize trends clearly and objectively for leadership (fact-based)
  • Propose practical, low-risk improvements such as clarifications to existing guidance or checklists; minor updates to templates or standard operating procedures; targeted recommendations for team training or reference materials
  • Demonstrate judgment in distinguishing between errors that must be corrected immediately, issues that should be documented and escalated, and patterns that warrant longer-term process improvement

Collaboration & Professional Conduct:
  • Work effectively with a diverse team, including subject-matter experts, project managers, and senior government leaders
  • Receive feedback professionally and apply it with humility and consistently
  • Ask clarifying questions when needed but only after reviewing available guidance and examples
  • Communicate findings clearly, concisely, and respectfully, especially in high-visibility settings
  • Carry out our Commitments to Deliver, Grow, and Thrive

Growth Opportunities:
For candidates who demonstrate strong performance in core editing and review duties, this role may grow to include:
  • Supporting the refinement of editorial policies, procedures, and quality controls
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of training materials or reference guides
  • Contributing to change management or continuous improvement initiatives related to document quality and compliance

Location:

You will work as part of a hybrid team in the Washington, DC metro area.

Required Experience/Skills:
  • A bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Previous experience gathering, analyzing, and composing complex technical information
  • Demonstrated experience translating technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel
  • Must possess the ability to work collaboratively with subject matter experts and government personnel
  • Ability to understand complex technical issues and communicate those issues to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to build partnerships across all levels of government
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and provide proposals and recommendations on processes and initiatives undertaken by the federal staff
  • Must have an active SECRET security clearance

Preferred Experience/Skills:
  • Previous experience supporting the Department of Homeland Security

Don't think you have everything for this role but are still very interested? Please don't hold back from applying because you may not have it all. You can learn and grow with us. We're looking for someone who is coachable, unflappable in navigating challenges, resourceful in learning new skills, innovative in challenging the status quo, excellent in writing, analytical in thinking, skilled in prioritization, and a rapport builder with clients and colleagues.

Salary:

Approximate Salary Estimate: $75,000.00 - 90,000.00 annually
