Full Job Description
IT Systems Engineer, Identity & Automation @ Clay

The IT Team at Clay is seeking an experienced Senior IT Systems Engineer to help build and scale the systems that power employee access, security, device management, and IT operations.

As Clay continues to grow, we are investing in a modern, automation-first IT foundation built around identity, device trust, lifecycle management, and operational scale. While this role spans multiple areas of enterprise technology, identity and automation will be the primary focus during the first year.

You'll work closely with Security, People Operations, Finance, and Engineering to create seamless employee experiences while strengthening the operational and security foundations required to support Clay's next stage of growth.

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, building scalable systems, and replacing manual processes with thoughtful automation.

What You'll Do
  • Build the foundation of identity at Clay. You'll help design and deploy the systems that govern how employees access technology across the company. From identity architecture and access management to lifecycle automation and device trust, you'll play a key role in establishing the next generation of Clay's security and IT foundations.
  • Create seamless employee experiences. You'll help build onboarding, offboarding, and device enrollment experiences that feel effortless for employees while maintaining strong security controls. We believe great IT experiences should be both secure and invisible.
  • Automate everything possible. You'll design and implement workflows that eliminate manual work, improve consistency, and allow IT to scale efficiently. Whether it's lifecycle management, access provisioning, SaaS administration, or operational processes, you'll look for opportunities to replace repetitive work with thoughtful automation.
  • Help build the systems that power IT. You'll contribute to the evolution of our internal technology stack, including identity, endpoint management, service management, and operational workflows that support employees around the world.
  • Partner across teams. You'll work closely with Security, People Ops, Finance, GTM, and Engineering to deliver technology solutions that support business goals while maintaining a strong employee experience.
  • Raise the bar for operational excellence. You'll help improve reliability, security, and scalability across our internal systems while contributing to compliance and governance initiatives that support Clay's continued growth.
What You'll Bring
  • Have 6+ years of experience in IT engineering, enterprise systems, identity and access management, or a related role.
  • Hold an Okta Certified Administrator or Okta Certified Consultant certification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent hands-on experience leading a significant Okta implementation. Certification is strongly preferred.
  • Have experience designing, implementing, or significantly expanding identity and access management platforms such as Okta.
  • Understand modern identity concepts including SSO, lifecycle management, SCIM, RBAC, group-based access controls, device trust, and conditional access.
  • Are passionate about automation and have experience building workflows using platforms such as Okta Workflows, N8N, Tines, Workato, or similar tools.
  • Have experience supporting endpoint management, device security, and modern workplace technologies.
  • Are comfortable operating in ambiguity and enjoy building systems and processes from the ground up.
  • Can balance long-term architectural thinking with hands-on operational work.
  • Are an excellent collaborator who communicates effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Have a can-do, get-it-done attitude. Are willing to do whatever it takes to get nascent IT department up and running smooth!
Bonus Points If You
  • Have led an Okta deployment, migration, or identity transformation initiative.
  • Have experience supporting high-growth organizations as they scale from hundreds to thousands of employees.
  • Have experience with workflow automation, low-code automation platforms, or internal tooling.
  • Have familiarity with security, compliance, and governance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, HITRUST.
  • Have experience designing zero-trust or device trust architectures.
  • Have familiarity with modern MDM platforms such as Kandji, Mosyle, Jamf, or Intune.
Why This Role

You'll have the opportunity to help build critical infrastructure that impacts every employee at Clay. Much of what you'll work on won't be inherited-it will be designed, implemented, and improved by you. You'll tackle challenges spanning identity architecture, automation, endpoint management, and operational scale while helping define how IT evolves as Clay continues to grow.

We're still early enough that your work will have an outsized impact, but large enough that the problems are meaningful. If you enjoy building systems, solving operational challenges, and creating experiences that scale, you'll find plenty of opportunities to make your mark here!
