The primary purpose of this position is to: to serve as a developmental Information Technology Specialist under the direct guidance of a Senior IT Specialist, performing Network Services in support of assigned programs(s) or functional. This position is intended to develop individuals who can deal effectively with change and complexity within the Air Force environment as it relates to the Cyberspace & Information Technology (C&IT) career field; to perform the full range of network services work, to apply the training and/or education received and complete developmental assignments and training outlined in the formal training & development plan.
The full performance (target) level of this position is NH-03. The incumbent will receive formal, informal, and/or on-the-job training in the specialty area, and assignments will become more difficult in nature. Assignments at this level are designed to provide the knowledges, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties at the full performance level. Non-competitive promotion to the next grade level is dependent upon:
1) satisfactory completion of the training requirements.
2) demonstrated ability to perform the duties at the next higher level.
3) fulfillment of all required legal and regulatory requirements for promotion.
4) recommendation for promotion by the supervisor.

- Obtain & maintain a security clearance
- Cyberspace qualification is a condition of employment. This position includes cyberspace work as a paramount duty requirement. DoDM 8140.03, para 4.2.a.(2) requires foundational qualification requirements within 9 months of assignment to a cyberspace work role and residential qualification requirements within 12 months of assignment to a cyberspace work role. An extension waiver of up to six-months may be granted per DoDM 8140.03. Failure to maintain the proper foundational and residential qualifications may result in removal from this position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
1. Knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements.
2. Knowledge of the network architecture, topology, protocols, and security requirements typically found at the base level.
3. Knowledge of configuration management concepts and practices to develop and implement plans for LANs and WANs.
4. Knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems.
5. Ability to analyze component interrelationships and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an operational perspective.
6. Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements.
