IT Operations EngineerAbout the RoleClay is scaling fast and the IT function is new. We have an IT Support Team keeping the queue moving and a Systems Engineer building the backbone. This role sits between them and owns the operational layer that keeps everything reliable as we grow: the systems of record, the vendors, and the tooling the rest of IT depends on.
The core of this role is ownership and execution. The Head of IT sets the architecture and strategy and is building these systems out now. Your job is to operate and maintain them as they mature, with a hand in the build-out alongside the Head of IT and the Systems Engineer. You9ll partner on change management and on the projects that move IT forward, and you9ll work alongside the Security team where the work overlaps. This is less about closing tickets and more about making sure the machinery IT runs on is accurate, governed, and improving.
This is a good fit if you like owning things outright, you care about getting the details right when the details are what an auditor checks, and you9d rather build a durable process than firefight the same problem twice.
What You9ll DoOwn MDM. Run our Mac fleet in Iru, including configuration profiles, zero-touch enrollment, custom scripts, and remediation. Manage the smaller Windows footprint we continue to support. MDM is yours to operate and improve, not just maintain.
Own the CMDB, asset data, and the ITAM vendor. Maintain Clay9s source of truth for assets and systems: laptops, network hardware, office ISP details, and a working map of the systems we run. That includes owning the relationship with the partner warehousing our hardware, and the procurement, shipments, deployments, and collection they handle. Once the reconciliation process is established (a build-out you9ll shape alongside the Head of IT and the Systems Engineer), you own keeping the data accurate and reconciled against our IdP and HR systems, catching and resolving drift before it becomes an audit finding.
Own vendor management and renewals. Track contracts, manage renewals before they lapse, handle license true-ups, and keep our SaaS and hardware agreements current and accounted for.
Help maintain the compliance benchmarks. Work with the Security team and the rest of IT to keep the IT side of our SOC 2 and ISO 27001 benchmarks in good shape: offboarding rigor, access review cycles, and the evidence trail that makes those reviews defensible.
Administer and govern the SaaS stack. Handle day-to-day administration and governance across Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and our core tools: provisioning, settings, group and access hygiene, and keeping things clean enough to pass a review.
Keep documentation current. You9ll own or maintain a lot of systems and process, and the team keeps its documentation up to date as it goes. Runbooks, configuration records, and process docs are a real part of the job, not an afterthought.
Partner on change and projects. Work with the Head of IT on a lightweight change management and approval process for IT changes, and contribute to the IT projects and deployments that shape how the function grows. You9ll take escalations from the Support team on the systems and tooling you own.
What You9ll Bring- 6-8+ years in IT, with meaningful time in a senior operations, systems, or infrastructure role
- A track record of operating and maintaining IT systems at scale, with the range to grow into broader ownership over time
- Deep MDM experience: hands-on ownership of Iru, Jamf Pro, or a similar cloud MDM, including configuration profiles, zero-touch enrollment, and scripting
- Bash scripting for macOS management, plus enough Windows MDM familiarity to manage a small footprint
- Deep day-to-day Okta administration: application integrations, group and access management, and real troubleshooting. You don9t need to own Okta outright (we have that covered), but you should be very comfortable working in it
- Experience working within SOC 2 and ISO 27001 in an IT context: access reviews, offboarding rigor, and evidence collection
- Experience owning ITAM or a CMDB: asset tracking, inventory reconciliation, and keeping records honest across systems
- Vendor management experience: contracts, renewals, license management, and holding a vendor accountable to deliver
- Broad SaaS admin experience across Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and a modern stack
- Strong documentation instincts; you write things down clearly and keep them current
- AI-forward mindset: you use AI tools to work faster and handle volume more intelligently
- Clear communicator who can hold a process line without making IT feel like a blocker
Bonus Points If You- Have worked with Iru specifically, or launched an MDM from scratch
- Have a Jamf certification
- Hold a security or ITIL-related certification ITIL Foundation, or anything on the security and compliance side)
- Have maintained additional compliance frameworks like HITRUST or NIST 800171
- Have built automations in Okta Workflows or a similar low-code tool
- Have exposure to broader automation tooling and AI-assisted workflows
- Have worked at a fast-scaling startup where IT process was being built out
Why This RoleThis is the operational ownership seat in a young IT function at a company growing fast. You9ll own the systems, vendors, and data that everything else depends on, and you9ll help build them out as they mature. Clay is an AI-forward company and we want an IT operation that reflects that: disciplined where it needs to be, automated where it can be, and accurate enough to stand up to scrutiny. If you want to own IT operations at a fast-moving company and grow with the function as it scales, this is a good fit.
