About the RoleWe're hiring our first IT Manager to own the full technology environment at Avoca. This is a foundational role sitting within Operations - you'll be responsible for everything from day-to-day employee support and SaaS administration to leading the IT build-out of our NYC headquarters. You'll report to the Head of Operations and work closely with every team in the company as we scale from 100 to 200+ employees.
What You'll Do- Own IT onboarding for every new hire - configure devices, provision accounts, and ensure day-one readiness across the company
- Lead the IT build-out of Avoca's NYC office, including network design, Wi-Fi infrastructure, AV/conferencing systems, and physical access control
- Administer Avoca's SaaS stack (Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, HubSpot, Zoom, and others) - managing access, integrations, and licensing
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all hardware and software issues; keep the team unblocked and moving fast
- Own endpoint security, identity and access management, and IT policy enforcement across the organization
- Drive IT process improvement, develop and manage ticketing and escalation workflows, and prepare and refine standard operating procedures
- Evaluate vendors, run cost-benefit analyses on tool upgrades and renewals, and ensure Avoca is getting best-in-class value
- Track and manage hardware and software inventory; manage laptop lifecycle from procurement through offboarding
What You'll Bring- 5+ years of experience in IT management or systems administration, ideally at a high-growth startup
- Hands-on experience with Google Workspace and a modern MDM platform (Rippling, Jamf, Kandji, or equivalent)
- Strong networking fundamentals - VLANs, Wi-Fi infrastructure, firewalls, DNS/DHCP
- Experience with identity and access management tools (Okta, Active Directory, or equivalent)
- Track record of supporting an office build-out or major infrastructure project end-to-end
- Strong vendor management and analytical skills; comfortable building a cost-benefit case and making a recommendation
- Clear, confident communicator who can translate technical decisions for non-technical stakeholders
- Nice to have: familiarity with AI tooling governance, SaaS security reviews, or relevant certifications (CompTIA, Google IT, AWS)
Who You Are- You're hands-on and ownership-oriented - when something breaks or doesn't exist yet, you fix it or build it without being asked
- You operate well in ambiguity and move fast; you don't wait for a perfect brief to get started
- You think in systems - you spot the upstream cause, not just the immediate symptom, and you build for scale even when you're solving for today
- You take the work seriously and hold a high bar for reliability; the team depends on you and you don't let them down
- You're in the office five days a week and set the standard for what a well-run, well-supported physical workspace looks like
Benefits- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Company-sponsored 401(k) through Vestwell
- Flexible PTO plus U.S. federal holidays
- Company-wide off-sites
- Daily in-office lunch through Parkday
- Dinner covered when working late
- Commuter support including transit reimbursement and late-night rideshare
- Standing desks and workspace accommodations available on request
- All core tools and software provided
