The
International Tax Partner provides executive leadership and accountability for international tax compliance and consulting services across a portfolio of clients with cross-border operations. This role serves as the senior technical and relationship leader for complex matters (including U.S. inbound/outbound structuring, international reporting, and treaty analysis), exercises independent judgment on matters of significance, and ensures delivery quality and risk management aligned to professional standards and firm policies. The International Tax Partner drives practice growth through business development and referral relationships, develops technical talent and leaders, and collaborates with tax and advisory leadership to deliver consistent outcomes.
Key responsibilities- Lead senior client relationships for international tax engagements; define objectives, scope, and success measures and serve as executive escalation point
- Direct the delivery and technical oversight of complex international tax compliance and reporting requirements to ensure accurate, timely, and supportable filings and workpapers
- Provide technical leadership on international tax consulting and planning (inbound/outbound structuring, cross-border transactions, repatriation planning, entity rationalization, treaty positions) and document positions consistent with firm standards
- Establish engagement risk management approach and ensure issues are identified, communicated, and resolved appropriately
- Lead and approve international tax deliverables, including technical memos, modeling outputs, and client-ready recommendations; ensure clarity, defensibility, and alignment to agreed scope
- Drive business development for international tax services by identifying opportunities, leading proposals, expanding referral networks, and collaborating on cross-sell with other service lines
- Develop and retain talent by coaching Directors/Senior Managers/Managers, reviewing key work products, supporting performance management, and building succession depth
- Manage engagement economics and capacity planning (scope discipline, resourcing, realization awareness, and delivery cadence) to achieve client outcomes and profitability targets
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a closely related field (or equivalent job-related experience)
- 12+ years of progressive tax experience with significant international tax responsibility in public accounting or a comparable professional services environment
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex international tax compliance and consulting engagements and advise senior client stakeholders
- Active CPA license in good standing (or ability to obtain/maintain based on firm policy)
- Master's degree in Taxation or JD/LLM (Tax) (preferred)
- Experience building or scaling an international tax practice (preferred)
