Overview

The Intermodal Operations Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day management of the Intermodal Operations team. This is accomplished by effectively responding to the needs of the operations team, the Intermodal customer base, and NFI suppliers. This position reports to the Regional Vice President of Intermodal Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Intermodal operations team by living the values of NFI and through continuous coaching and development.
  • Skillfully negotiate rates and services with clients for Intermodal and FTL services.
  • Support dedicated sales resources that are trying to advance the interests of the Intermodal business line.
  • Develop, implement, and manage an SOP for each account managed by the operations group and maintain a level of service that is consistent with the terms of sale.
  • Work directly with the capacity group to ensure proper coverage of committed freight by the capacity group.
  • Collaborate with Intermodal Pricing department, NFI Suppliers, as well use of market-based indices for pricing short-term spot market, and long-term contractual rates for existing clients.
  • Respond to sales inquiries and work with Intermodal Pricing to provide pricing on transactional business as well as pricing proposals where applicable.
  • Ensuring proper follow-up and management of all customer shipments.
  • Breaking through internal obstacles that limit growth/service consistent with NFI deliverables.
  • A sales/growth-oriented mindset to enable organic growth from the existing Intermodal client base.
  • Participate in the hiring, training, and ongoing development of new operations staff.
  • Clear communication of service expectations to other operations staff supporting client base.
  • Using available industry tools and relationships to identify potential clients for sales staff.
  • Proper positioning of Intermodal services within the NFI network.
  • Foster growth in Intermodal business through collaboration with all NFI Departments and willingness to do "Whatever it takes" to ensure client's needs are met.

Qualifications

Requirements:
  • BA or BS Degree preferred
  • 5-7 years experience preferred working with intermodal, domestic truckload, and LTL shipments.
  • Familiarity with DOT trucking regulations (Hours of Service, Claims, etc)
  • Familiarity with AAR circular which governs North American rail shipments
  • Proficient in using MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that involves learning and using multiple applications and handling a high volume of phone calls.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of TMS programs used for intermodal services.
  • Market knowledge of intermodal and truckload lanes and rates.
  • Individual commitment towards sharpening existing or acquiring new skills as required by demands of the business or customers.

Other:
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on shipment volume.

We are excited to share that the base salary range for this position is $80,225 - $100,282. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. NFI takes into consideration applicants' qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location when determining a starting rate of pay.
