Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking qualified candidates for an Intermediate Level Hydrogeologist, reporting to an office in Salt Lake City, Reno, Denver or Phoenix (location is flexible). The primary focus of this position is to support hydrogeologic studies for our regional and international mining industry clients. The individual will engage complex projects related to industrial water supply, mine dewatering, acid rock drainage, metal leaching, mineral precipitation, pit lake chemistry, water-rock interactions, and mine permitting.

The successful candidate will work on challenging, high-impact projects within multi-disciplinary teams to design and execute baseline studies, feasibility studies, and other hydrogeological investigations to support client objectives. Travel will be required and some projects require visiting remote sites.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Develop preliminary conceptual hydrogeological models to support field program design
  • Design and oversee implementation of hydrogeology field investigations including drilling and logging of overburden and bedrock core, sampling of soil, groundwater and bedrock
  • Design and oversee installation of monitoring wells, supply wells, dewatering wells, and vibrating wire piezometers
  • Design and oversee single well and multi-well aquifer test programs
  • Support development of numerical groundwater models to support dewatering requirements and environmental impact assessments
  • Prepare field data summary reports, including lithologic logs
  • Travel as required to various field sites with overnight travel sometimes required (valid driver's license is required)
  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative working relationships with cross-disciplinary teams


Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology or related discipline is required with a master's degree preferred
  • Experience using GIS tools
  • Experience using hydrogeologic analytical tools for interpretation of aquifer test results
  • Experience using groundwater modeling tools such as MODFLOW or FEFLOW preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Professional license (PG) or the ability to obtain a professional license
  • Exceptional organizational, technical, written and oral communication and attention to detail skills
  • Foreign language skills are a plus
