Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Intermediate Environmental Risk Assessment Specialist. The successful candidate will have a University Degree (Master's preferred) in toxicology, engineering or science and a minimum of 5 years experience in federal and provincial human health and ecological risk assessments. In addition, the successful candidate will support business development activities in the risk assessment field and mentor other junior employees in the areas of risk assessment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver technical solutions and projects to our risk assessment clients;
  • Conduct human health and ecological risk assessments under international, federal, and provincial guidance and regulations;
  • Complete risk assessments following jurisdictional guidance and/or standards of best practice including the development of a conceptual site model, exposure and risk characterization calculations and report preparation;
  • Mentor and develop junior staff in risk assessment fundamentals;
  • Be an emerging leader in the risk assessment community;
  • Develop and implement a strategy with other team members to grow the risk assessment business; and
  • Work with other innovative thinkers to cultivate business development opportunities.


Qualifications
  • University degree in toxicology, engineering or science (graduate degree is preferred);
  • Minimum of 5- years post degree experience in risk assessment;
  • Considered a Qualified Person for Risk Assessment (QPRA) in Ontario;
  • Demonstrated success completing human and ecological risk assessments under O. Reg 153/04 and federal guidelines such as FCSAP and developing Risk Management Plans;
  • Accomplished at using spreadsheets to coalesce and evaluate complex datasets and develop exposure models;
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Excellent quantitative skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail; and
  • Experience training and mentoring staff on projects.
