Intermediate Dams Engineer

Who are we looking for?

GHD's Dams Group is seeking an experienced Intermediate Dams Engineer to join our growing dams and hydropower practice, based in our Vancouver, British Columbia office.

We are looking for a well-rounded dams engineer with experience across dam engineering and dam safety, combined with demonstrated project management and client-facing capabilities.

The successful candidate will work across a diverse portfolio of dam projects, taking responsibility for technical delivery and smaller projects or work packages while collaborating with GHD's multidisciplinary specialists in Canada and internationally.

This role is well suited to an engineer who has developed a strong technical foundation and is ready to take greater responsibility for projects, clients and technical coordination, while continuing to develop toward a senior technical or project leadership role.

In this role, you will:

Undertake and coordinate engineering studies, assessments and designs for existing and new dams and associated infrastructure.

• Support and undertake dam safety activities, including inspections, performance assessments, Dam Safety Reviews, risk assessments and development of recommendations for investigation, monitoring or remediation.
• Manage smaller projects and multidisciplinary work packages, with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, quality, deliverables and client communication.
• Coordinate technical inputs from geotechnical, geological, hydrotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental and other disciplines.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications and other project deliverables.
• Participate in field investigations, dam inspections and construction activities, including providing engineering support during construction.
• Work directly with clients to understand their needs, communicate technical findings, resolve project issues and support successful project outcomes.
• Develop practical, risk-informed engineering solutions that consider dam safety, constructability, operations, environmental requirements and client objectives.
• Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates and technical submissions, and support GHD's broader client relationship and business development activities.

What you bring to the team:

• 5-10 years of progressively responsible engineering experience, with meaningful experience in dams, hydropower or related water-retaining infrastructure.
• A degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Structural or a related engineering discipline.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligibility to obtain registration, including eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, where applicable.
• A broad understanding of dam engineering and dam safety, with the ability to work across disciplines rather than being limited to a single technical specialty.
• Experience with one or more dam types, which may include embankment, concrete or other water-retaining structures.
• Knowledge and experience across several aspects of dam engineering, which may include dam safety, geotechnical assessment, slope stability, seepage, hydrotechnical assessments, spillways and outlet works, seismic assessment, risk assessment, rehabilitation and dam upgrades.

Salary range: $77,550 - $129,250. The salary range is based on the preferred work location. If the selected candidate's location differs, changes to the salary range may apply.
