Full Job Description
The University of Minnesota Law Library seeks a self-motivated, innovative, collaborative, and highly service-oriented professional to lead the Library's interlibrary loan (ILL) and document delivery services. The Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Librarian directs and promotes the Law Library's ILL borrowing and document delivery services in support of the curricular, research, and scholarly needs of the Law School's faculty, students, and staff, and administers the Library's ILL lending services for institutions outside the Law Library. This is a full-time, on-site position that includes supervision of one to two student assistants.

The Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Librarian reports to the Associate Director for Research Services. Professional librarians are hired under the University of Minnesota Academic Professional and Administrative (P&A) employee classification system, which may lead to promotion and continuous appointment based on successful fulfillment of library duties, published scholarship, and professional participation.

Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program. This is an in-person position.

Responsibilities

Duties include:
  • Managing the Library's ASAP service, a high-volume, customized information resources delivery service for Law School faculty.
  • Resolving complex borrowing and document delivery requests, often requiring advanced citation verification, received from Law School faculty, students, and staff.
  • Locating, requesting, and supplying requested information sources from the Law Library, campus libraries, and outside institutions.
  • Overseeing all borrowing and lending aspects of the Library's ILL services and intercampus services.
  • Utilizing OCLC ILL, Adobe Acrobat Professional, research databases, and other interlibrary loan or legal resources for retrieving and delivering materials to users.
  • Ensuring licensing and copyright compliance related to interlibrary loan and document delivery services.
  • Compiling and analyzing retrieval and delivery services statistics, and utilizing data to guide operational enhancements.
  • Identifying and evaluating emerging trends, resources, practices, and standards in interlibrary loan and document delivery services and implementing new technologies, delivery options, and procedures as appropriate.
  • Supervising student assistants and monitoring an annual departmental budget.
  • Collaborating with other departments in the Law Library.
  • Representing the Law Library on campus, regional, and national levels.
  • Engaging in research and scholarship relevant to law librarianship and/or substantive legal subjects.
  • Participating in professional service activities.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • M.L.S. degree from an A.L.A.-accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of access services or interlibrary loan/document delivery experience in an academic or legal library.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current developments in interlibrary loan and document delivery services.
  • Evidence of strong service philosophy.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple requests from various clientele, and to effectively organize and prioritize workload.
  • Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly developed online search skills and experience in verifying and retrieving complex or inaccurately cited material.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, as well as work collaboratively.
  • Experience in compiling statistical reports using Excel spreadsheets and/or Google Sheets.
  • Demonstrated potential to engage in ongoing scholarly productivity and related professional association activities.

Desired Qualifications
  • Interlibrary loan and/or document delivery-related experience.
  • Experience using ILL/resource-sharing platforms, including OCLC WorldShare Interlibrary Loan and Rapido/RapidILL.
  • Knowledge of basic legal research materials and legal citation formats.
  • J.D. degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school.
  • Substantial experience and skills in digitizing print and microform materials, and ensuring accessibility.
  • Experience and skill in using Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Supervisory experience, preferably in a library environment.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $75,000 - $90,000 per year ; depending on education/qualifications/experience
