Job Description

The Interconnections Senior Planning Engineer will coordinate and perform interconnection studies for data centers, offshore wind, energy storage, public policy transmission, and other new clean energy projects. They will conduct power-flow and short circuit analyses for substations, identify local and system upgrades to maintain reliable electric system operations. Additionally, they will manage internal engineering support activities, interface with NYISO and merchant developers, assess the impacts of new generation/transmission/load projects on the bulk electric system, and recommend modifications to NYISO.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of work experience in the planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system. or
  • Master's Degree in Engineering and 6 years of work experience in the planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering and 8 years of work experience in the planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering 6 years of work experience in the planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Practical experience in the design and /or operation of the electric power system, required.
  • Proficient in using PSS/E, TARA, Aspen or equivalent power system simulation programs, required.
Skills and Abilities

Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
