Full Job Description
Anduril is seeking an Integration & Test Engineer (Iron Bird), specializing in HIL/HITL (Hardware in Lab/Hardware In The Loop) to join the Omen team at our Costa Mesa HQ. Omen is Anduril's hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle (AAV) that packs the endurance, payload, and mission flexibility of much larger airplanes into a novel runway-independent Group 3 platform. Omen can operate from ship decks, beaches, or remote island clearings, providing true runway independence and freedom of maneuver across defense and civilian domains. Omen is the first tail-sitter aircraft with a mass-production contract, with an order of 50 systems representing a decisive investment that anchors production and accelerates the development of future systems.

You will lead design, build, commission, and operate highly representative physical integration environments that bridge the gap between component-level bench testing and flight test in a lean, high-ownership culture where you directly shape the product and operate at a velocity to fly new designs within months, not years.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Own the design, build, commissioning, and sustained operation of Iron Bird (HIL/HITL) environments for all vehicle configurations - enabling mission simulation, off-nominal testing, and failure injection
  • Design and maintain modular Iron Bird configurations with switchable hardware and emulation to enable flexible, subsystem-targeted testing
  • Develop, review, and execute right-sized test plans for Iron Bird integration activities, efficiently capturing and reporting learnings, and making recommendations as inputs to design
  • Support software release and regression testing through the Iron Bird environment
  • Lead component, subsystem, and system-level integration within Iron Bird environments
  • Focus on the safety of integration environments, ensuring that potential harm to team members is eliminated by design, with particular attention to high voltage, rotating machinery, and stored energy
  • Implement and maintain processes for configuration control of Iron Bird environments including hardware, firmware, and wiring baselines
  • Develop and maintain real-time data visualization and monitoring capabilities for Iron Bird operations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
  • Bachelor degree or higher in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems Engineering or aviation related technical discipline
  • 5+ years experience in developing and operating HIL/HITL/Iron Bird or comparable environments for flight vehicles or complex autonomous systems
  • Experience with real-time simulation environments, hardware emulation, closed-loop test configurations, and HIL platforms (dSPACE, NI, Speedgoat, or similar)
  • Experience designing and building integration test benches including power distribution, signal routing, harnessing, and mechanical fixturing
  • Adept at working safely with high voltage systems, including integration, checkout and test
  • Strong test engineering foundation - DAQ setup and operation, sensor selection and installation, fluency in common communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, Serial), and command line interface (CLI)
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented, excellent verbal and written communication skills (effective for broad audiences)
  • A sincere commitment to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture
  • Defense Industry background desirable
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance in United States, United Kingdom, or Australia
