Job Title Infrastructure & Capital Projects - Construction Safety Officer, COM Location Toronto, ON CA (Primary) Category Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management Job Type Full-time THE WORK:
  • (Internal Title: Construction Safety Officer)
    • Perform construction assurance and compliance activities on the assigned Projects.
    • Support Project teams to develop Safe Work Procedures and to implement effectively for the safe execution of the works.
    • Perform formal inspections and audits to ensure compliance with the relevant OHS legislation, standards and contract requirements.
    • Provide day to day oversight for on-site construction work conducted by contractors to assess contractor compliance against the relevant OHSA legislation and contract requirements, support with the identification of hazards and implementation of risk mitigation controls.
    • Review site activities and provide support for the protection of workers as well as public, infrastructure and operations.
    • Engage, coordinate and work with Integrated Project Team and internal/external stakeholders to provide consistent and continuous support.
    • In collaboration with the Integrated Project team, review, analyze and outline construction activities and work areas to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
    • Participate and/or support others with incident investigations, including follow up actions to ensure implementation of identified corrective actions.
    • Assist the Safety Director and Safety team with other tasks as required.
  • Working Conditions

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
    • Experience in railway safety, infrastructure and heavy civil
  • Education:
    • College Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management, or a combination of education and industry experience
  • Licenses OR Certifications:
    • Holding a recognized certification in at least one of the following: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), Gold Seal Certificate (GSC) for Construction Safety Coordinator (CSC) or National Safety Officer (NSO) is preferred.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction regulations and its application to construction projects
    • Ability to arrange priorities and escalate competing risks to meet deadlines with minimum input from leadership
    • Keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilities
    • Must have demonstrated experience relaying and receiving information (written and verbal)
    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office
