Kind of Work

Highly responsible technical and supervisory work of a specialized nature coordinating, implementing, and managing the organization's Internet-based strategies and initiatives for GIS software. This classification is responsible for ensuring the development and maintenance of applications based upon spatially referenced data and digital mapping, preserving the integrity and design of geographic information databases, and managing a team of IT professionals whose purpose is to support GIS functions. Work also includes:
• Managing and directing all strategic technology planning and implementation in the establishment and maintenance of an enterprise GIS environment.
• Managing and providing technical guidance to the GIS team.
• Developing and supporting reporting mechanisms to capture information on the current status of the environment and presenting performance to management and other departments.
• Establishing and implementing policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure security and accuracy of data maintained in the GIS environment.
• Creating and maintaining technical and business documentation.
• Coordinating with operations to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of the GIS enterprise to meet business demands.
• Recommending and executing modifications to GIS software and supporting hardware in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
• Related work as required.

Note: Employees in this classification may work a fixed or rotating shift, Saturdays and emergencies. Employees in this classification are considered essential and must report to work in declared emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications

1) Bachelor's Degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), engineering, telecommunications or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

2) Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the management, design and/or implementation of Geographic Information database mapping systems (GIS)
involving LAN/WAN, microcomputer, and/or mobile device applications.
Two (2) years of this experience must have been supervisory.
A rsum must be submitted within two (2) weeks of application.

This position requires a one year probationary period.

A rating of training and experience weighted 100%. Credit will only be given for related experience gained within the last ten (10) years.
