Salary Range (commensurate with experience): $27.92 - 54.41 / Annual Salary

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director for Patient Care Services, Employee Relations, the Human Resource Officer will actively participate in the drafting and processing of Human Resource & Employee and Labor Relations transactions and activities in a comprehensive human resource operation for Civil Service, Academic Professional employees, and Residents within the Graduate Medical Education (GME) program. The Human Resource Officer assists in investigations, maintain, monitor, and/or process human resource/Employee and Labor Relations records and reports, liaise with outside agencies, and otherwise will actively assist the Employee Relations team.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Composes and assists in the composition of correspondence (such as form letters and follow up on ongoing cases) which requires a knowledge of established departmental procedures
  • Assists and prepares pre-disciplinary action meetings and reconciliation hearings
  • Acts as the hearing officer for UI Health Letter of Warning (LOW) Pre-disciplinary meetings
  • Acts as point of contact for Union Business Representatives and stewards
  • Review and advise on performance management situations to ensure fairness of decision making.
  • Answers inquiries that require knowledge of established University polices & procedures and familiarity with operations and programs within the Hospital.
  • Works to De-escalate and resolve matters as appropriate using empathetic listening and conflict resolution skills.
  • Advise and support partner teams on investigations and disciplinary processes along with human resource policies and rules.
  • Identifies and resolves problems or recommends courses of actions ensuring that investigations/disciplinary processes are managed in a fair and timely manner consistent with civil service requirements and relevant collective bargaining agreements.
  • Provides input on the development and revision of various documents and procedures; and assists with the development and development of manager development training
  • Reconciles various documents with responsibility for detecting and correcting errors; monitors, analyzes and validates employee relations documents and reports based on established criteria
  • Collaborate with office of access and equity to resolve workplace conflicts resulting in discrimination or title IX violations. for Civil Service, Academic Professional employees, and Residents within the Graduate Medical Education (GME) program Assists managers in responding to charges from outside agencies including Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR); collects and organizes various sources of information, and provides factual data as required for the completion of reports for ongoing cases.
  • Manages confidential information within the department Performs other duties and participates with special projects as assigned
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Any one or any combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the following categories:
    1. course work in human resource administration, business administration or a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
      • Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
      • Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    2. progressively more responsible work experience maintaining, monitoring, and/or processing human resource records and reports.
