Summary

The Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Supervisor, reporting to the HSSE Manager, is responsible for the implementation and execution of our Health and Safety Management Systems primarily within the Southwestern Ontario region.

This role works closely with the Construction Supervisors, Project Management and field-based Operations and Union partner, Canadian Union of Skilled Workers). A key part of this role is to provide coaching and support in all aspects of safety, occupational health, security, and environment.

The HSSE Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day administration and supports the HSSE Manager and regional team with planning, coordinating and implementation of effective HSSE policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure the department objectives are met.

Qualifications

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Designation
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Designation
  • Post-secondary training in occupational health and safety (OHS) - examples include:


  • OHS certificate / Diploma / Degree from recognized Institution/School
  • A combination of NCSO certification, trade certification, post-secondary education and relevant industrial experience will be considered.

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of related HSE experience.
  • High voltage construction (Transmission, Distribution, Stations, Earthworks) experience.

Skills
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of health and safety management systems (HSMS).
  • Knowledge of various construction environments including but not limited to:
    • Overhead and underground electrical distribution
    • Electrical substations construction
    • Earthworks and civil construction
  • Strong understanding of Ontario OHS, WSIB, and other regulatory/legislative standards.
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of working collaboratively in a union environment. namely the Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW), and their integration into the construction operations process.
  • Knowledge of North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC CIP) standards.
  • Experience working with Hydro One Networks Inc. (HONI) or similar Electrical Utility owner would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in a timely manner.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with both client and subcontractor HSSE professionals as well as operations personnel.
  • Comfortable and proficient with various computer software and online HSE platforms including but not limited to:

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint)
  • SiteDocs,
  • ComplyWorks
  • ISNetworld


Duties

  • Lead by example.
  • Support the HSSE Manager and team with planning, coordinating and implementation of effective HSSE policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure that the department objectives are met.
  • Provide support to Project and Operation team in all aspects of safety, occupational health, security, and environmental issues.
  • Provide leadership to the company in complying with current health, safety, and environmental legislation and/or regulations within the provinces that Iconic Power Systems operates in.
  • Ensures that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the safety of employees, clients, and visitors on site and in the office.
  • Increases health, safety, and environmental awareness at all levels within the organization.
  • Educate and coach field level staff to ensure HSSE standards and expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Promotes proactive reporting of all safety and environmental opportunities and/or near misses.
  • Responds to employees' safety & environmental concerns.
  • Maintain HSE databases and online platforms.
  • Provide a safety presence at all job sites throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Travel to sites in a variety of weather conditions to remote locations where off-road travel may be required to reach crew locations. Candidate will be required to walk on uneven terrain throughout the year to observe crews working on transmission/distribution lines.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to drive and support worker engagement in the HSMS
  • Engage in conflict resolution and work with managers, staff, and clients to resolve issues.
  • Attend regular tactical and strategic meetings as required.
  • Attend all project-relevant meetings such as project handoff, kick-offs, and review.

  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • This position is a mix of office and field work. A large portion of this position's time will require field work and related travel within the province.
